We got better this year

Well, you're wrong. Franklin is not out there running bad routes and dropping balls. We simply do not have the players. A great O coordinator in his time once said, "It's not about the X's and O's it's about the Jimmys and the Joes". That fact is way truer than people want to make it because they have an agenda against a coach.

You better just get use to Franklin because this university will never get rid of him. The way they see it he has done a phenomenal job across the board. So I think people with your take on the situation are going to get very tired. There is a reason they gave him the contract they did.
lol. That’s why WRs brought in get worse under Franklin. Not better. Every team in the nation gets better production than PS for WR and it’s not coaching. You need to get you Franklin lover glasses off and come to reality. They may not be NFL talent but they are not JV.

I look at it a little different. PSU WAS better this season, but every year PSU fields a new team and the losses and additions from year to year, together with a new schedule and the changes other teams have in their roster, many times don't result in the results that fans may expect. The fact that Allar and Durant are returning, and that maybe a couple other high level players such as Singleton and DDS may also return, surely is reason for optimism. The roster turnover, including the possibility of a couple young players breaking out into stars (Denmark, Granville, Gilliam, Dixon, Reynolds...??), is what makes following college football so interesting to me.

I think Penn State was better in certain areas and worse in other areas.

Better: TE, RB, OL, DL, CB

Slight drop off from previous year: LB (mostly due to Carter moving to DE), Safety (Winston injury hurt us)

Regressed: QB (Allar mental lapses and poor decision making against top competition)

Worse: WR

You completely ignore the fact that they were not for this level of play and NIL but they took what they could get. So, if it's not coaching then it's not Franklin either.

IIRC, he was hired pretty late after recruiting for his first year was done. So his impact was getting the kid from Kent State …..,who was considered to top receiver in the portal field.

The kid didn’t meet expectations. Happens a lot. AFAIK, he didn’t succeed after transferring so it wasn’t Hagen’s fault.

Flemming didn’t meet expectations at 0 Hiya or here. He had injuries early on that may have had lasting impact 🤷🏻‍♀️

I doubt he gets replaced this year. Supposedly his recruits are pretty good so he will get one more year. But if next year looks like this one he will be gone.
Gotta agree that Hagans probably gets another year unless Franklin can land a coach K type of guy as WO coach.

I personally was over the loss an hour after the game and have moved on to recruiting and waiting for Spring Practice. Franklin wasn't the issue in that game. They simply couldn't get it done.

People can pick their reasons why but there are 11 players on the field on O at times all where the blame. Our WO situation is just deplorable.

My last comments on the game, while Allar at times couldn't hit the broad side of a barn and has not yet learned when and how to throw the ball away when the pocket is collapsing around him. There were moments when he could have run for good yardage but tried to hold onto the ball to long then running around too late attempting to make something out of nothing.

It was one of the worst games I've seen Allar play. I think it was good that we got as far in the playoffs as we did.

Now it's back to recruiting and getting ready for spring. Hope springs eternal and it can't get here soon enough.
But Franklin WAS the issue. He recruited the WRs, he hired Hagans, for God’s sake, he coached WRs in NFL.

Just imagine if any of us had our fingerprints over this type of failure at our jobs. And not just failure, but historic levels of failure? Add to that being successful on only 1/16 of our job performance key results (winning big games, in his case)? And in over a decade in the job? Same results.

We’d be fired in a New York minute!

Why does he get a pass?

I really do't think Allar regressed. He played very well in some critical times such as vs USC which basically won the game. Just some poor decisions in the biggest games such as vs Oregon, OSU and ND. But that happens to manu QB's. Only the ones that play for teams with decided talent advantages can look real good almost all the time.

But as you said, some positions improve and others drop off most ever year. With the portal even ol'Joe would have a hard time lining up a year for a championship run.

The whole Franklin is terrible premise is flawed; it's a one-sided outlook without considering ALL the other factors. It's one that I do not buy into at all.

Terrible? Absolutely not?

Capable of winning big games at this level?

Well, the math don’t lie.

I don’t think I have seen an answer to this question: What is Frankin’s signature road win at Penn State?

The answer will say a lot.

Compare Franklins overall record to Joes once assuming that's your baseline.

Do you mean most bowl wins in history? Most wins in history? Only coach to win all major bowls? 5 unbeaten teams? That record?

What does that have to do with Franklin’s signature road win?
