As usual we can count on sarge and others to cast aspersions relative to one's motives and actions despite misrepresenting what actually happened or is happening. We've seen this show before relative to Franklin and his program. I guess today it was Joe's turn.
Over the past two or three days this community has been forced to deal with a new barrage of allegations relative to Joe, and this time, up to six assistant coaches.
- In breaking news (this occurred today) prosecutors quickly debunked the ridiculous allegations relative to assistant coaches seeing JS having sex with boys in the shower. Unfortunately, but predictably, this news received very little attention, or an actual retraction - imagine that.
- 1971 allegation - it's alleged JS picked up a boy hitchhiking, took him back to the facilities, gave him pot and some booze, and then while the youngster was using the bathroom - JS wrestled the boy and then raped him. But the catch comes in the boy's alleged reaction to this assault. He doesn't tell his parents. He doesn't tell his teachers. He doesn't tell his friends. He doesn't tell his neighbors. He doesn't tell his youth league coaches. He doesn't tell the police. No, per usual in state college - when one has any dealing with JS - one reports the problem to Joe Paterno. Yes, the incident was reported to Joe and another individual, in a conference call. I'm not even sure if Penn State's football facilities had the ability to do a conference call in 1971, and both Joe and the other individual are dead, but that's the story. And we know this story is true because, and this is the lu lu, the topper, the icing on the cake for me - Bernie McCue said so. Yes, Bernie McCue, the town crackpot and serial harasser of the Paterno family is the lead source for a story than ran on CNN and authored by none other than our own Sara Ganim, the hack of hacks.
Yes, Bernie alleges the victim told him of this heinous assault in 1971. Please note Bernie was in his early to mid thirties at the time of this incident. And what did Bernie do with this information you ask. Absolutely nothing. But it gets better folks. This rock solid source for sara gamim reported on twitter he respected Joe Paterno until 2011 when the scandal broke. You can't make this shit up. He respected Joe for 40 years despite Joe doing nothing about an alleged report of child molestation in 1971. Oh well, I guess he stuck his head in the sand. Sara Ganim's lead source completely contradicted himself (lied is a better way of putting it) and yet there are idiots out there giving this story credibility. Again, all you have to do is implicate Joe.
One more thing: The victim in this case alleged Joe told him he wouldn't report this incident partially because of all the good things JS had done for the community over the years. Please note JS was an unknown assistant at this time and the Second Mile was six years in the future. Not sure what JS was doing for the community but it must have been something. smh
-1976 - Same old, same old. The only difference is this time the victim actually went to Joe personally to report JS molesting him. This kid is impressive. Joe's been criticized for 50 years for running a very tight ship with extremely limited access to media, fans, pro scouts, etc but this kid found a way to gain an audience with the God himself. Again, there's no source, no corroboration, no vetting, etc but this story has once again caused many to piss on the grave of the great fraud. Reagan coined the phrase just say no to drugs. The media, haters, and frauds in the Penn State community have coined the phrase Joe had to know. Anywa, in 1976, as in 1971, Joe continues to bury his head in the sand.
- 1998 - I'm not sure how but this time the actual authorities were involved in a JS incident. Tragically for all concerned - the authorities did nothing. And despite all the relevant authorities being involved - Penn State, Joe Paterno, and the football program are still held responsible. This incident involved the dreaded shower. The public was aghast at JS and the boy taking a shower after a workout, and we were told any time an adult male and a boy are in a shower room together we must all assume something nefarious is going on. Please note the mother of this alleged victim allowed her son to continue to hang around with JS for another 10 plus years. Anyway, all anyone knows regarding the 98 incident is Joe had to know. The rest is noise.
- 2001 - This is my favorite. Again, the dreaded shower. In this incident MM sees something or hears something in the showers. He thinks it's of a sexual nature, at least that's what he tells the authorities 10 years later.
His story is he looks in a mirror, for two seconds mind you, and around a corner, and sees JS and the boy. He claims he saw JS behind the boy. I guess one is to assume sodomy. OK, I have a problem. I may be wrong but I thought JS was around 6-2. Not a small man. And I know this isn't pleasant but I'm wondering how this works physically relative to sodomy when you have two people so diametrically different relative to height. Did JS put the kid on a stool. Further, my cousin is a doctor and he said the boy would have serious injuries to his rectum, and would be in quite a bit of pain during the act.
So if I take Mike at his word despite the physics not working - what does this 30 year-old guy do when he see this heinous act. Nothing. Instead he calls his dad and goes home. And when home he tells his dad and a doctor friend what he saw. As it turns out the doctor asks mike three times if he saw anything sexual. Mike's answer was no. I'm not sure why one would answer that way if one sees a boy being molested but these are questions no one cares about.
That said what do the Mcquearys and the doc decide is the best course of action. If you guessed call the police - you guessed wrong. They decide mike should tell Joe. That's brainless to me if you see a rape but it is what it is. Mike telling Joe has nothing to do with the fact that Kenny Jackson had just announced he was leaving for the Steelers three days earlier, and perhaps this is a good opportunity for Mike to get some face time with Joe and show what a good soldier he is in the hopes of landing the job. No way.
So Mike tells Joe what happened. Mike indicates later he gave Joe a watered down account of what happened, but he's sure Joe understood his report was of a sexual nature. In my humble opinion this is mike trying to cover his ass for not reporting a sexual assault to anyone. And it seems like no one understood he was reporting a sexual assault because no one he told reacted in a manner consistent with that kind of a report. This includes his father, the doc friend, Joe, Tim Curley, and Gary Schultz.
Further, Mike's actions for the next 10 years bear witness to the kind of report he made. For example MM participated in TSM charity golf outings in which JS was present, and he also asked JS for input on kids Mike was recruiting at Central Mountain High School.
I would think at some point Mike would follow-up on his eyewitness account of child rape but instead he was more concerned with Jerry's evaluation of players at Central Mountain. That's an amazing ability to move on folks. Oh well, I guess he figured this was now Joe's problem. After all Joe was the father of the coaches. SMH.
And one more thing, despite Mike's vicious slamming of the locker door - neither JS or the kid recall ever seeing or hearing Mike that night. And for the record: the kid in the shower that night has absolutely been confirmed. And you know what - he said absolutely nothing happened that night in the shower except for JS and he horsing around with towels. I guess we only believe victims when they say something happened- not when they say nothing happened. That's tragically convenient.
Please note this situation was reported to Second Mile. You remember Second Mile - that's the organization ultimately responsible for these kids. And not for nothing but Tim Curley reported this incident to the Director of Second mile. And the director of second mile is a mandated reporter. That means regardless of what Tim said happened this director has to report this situation to CYS.
But alas it should be clear to anyone relative to the 2001 incident that the real fly in the ointment was Joe. Despite consulting University procedures regarding how best to handle this situation - Joe buries his head in the sand. Yes, he did follow the law but he should have done more despite more being illegal. After all I think it's fair to assume (despite 60 years of a life well lived) that Joe was more concerned about his legacy than following up for Mike.
We all understand that when one reports alleged child molestation that this action can be devastating to one's legacy. I'm sure the media would have killed Joe for reporting JS even though he did report js. I always thought one would be praised for doing the right thing but I guess I'm naieve.
And let's face facts: Joe has a really weak record of following the rules and trying to do the right thing. He was always a guy to bury his head in the sand. smh
