Honest analysis and question

So if it’s true that the school isn’t really committed to spending money to win why on earth would you pay so much to a coach to produce such mediocre results? Wouldn’t it be more fiscally responsible to buy him out and pay a young cheap coach to produce basically the same results? We are 10-9 in 2 seasons. If we split we will be 11-10. Got to be some guys who will take half or less to produce the same garbage right?
You statement questions begins with a non-starter. Penn State has committed spending money to win. Franklin wants them to spend more because he isn't good enough of a coach to get them over the hump and wants people to think it is money.

It " feels bad" because we are close

Today was mostly execution by the players. A few bad throws by Clifford. A few dropped passes. Oline gave up too many sacks today. Poor execution on fake fg. Poor execution on fg that hit the upright. Didn't take advantage of the fumble recovery inside the other teams 20 had to settle for 3 points instead or 6/7 points. Poor pass coverage by Porter today. Was involved on all 3 TDs against.

Poor coaching by faking the fg in 1st quarter. Poor coaching on the 4th and 2 fade pass to the sideline instead of a short pass to a te or Washington.

All that and we still only lost by 4.
We are not that close. The coach to get us over the hump will likely be Franlkin's successor. Someone who can bring in two quality coordinators capable of adjusting the offense and defense to match the talent on hand, make adjustments in game, not bungle critical moments time and again and more importantly, someone who will instill toughness in this team.

I don't put too much stock in a four point loss when Michigan ran an extremely conservative game plan that kept the game close. They ran the football, punted and played defense while we made mistakes. This is also why I don't put much stock in the closer than expected game against Ohio State, who also used an extremely conservative game plan.

Are you freakin kidding wrt “Mike Y”. Fran Ganter was twice the OC Yurcich is. Ganter and Bradley/Sandusky were comparative halftime geniuses compared to what we have now. I don’t know how many times we used to come out in the second half after making some adjustments, and then kicking some second half a$$.

Yurcich had absolutely NO Plan B at Iowa. And then, after two weeks to get his act together against one of the worst teams in the Conference, he sends out a crippled QB that can’t run or throw. Today, we looked like a freakin mess on offense.

Lee probably looked better today than any of our backs have looked all year against good competition. But that ain’t saying much. Lee is slow as molasses and finally realized how to make his own holes at times. But it has taken him 10 games. If I see another of our RBs try to dance instead of making their own holes like they used to in years past, I’m going to freakin scream.

Everyone on this offense seems to have regressed as the season has worn on with the possible exception of Lee.

Defense is better than offense, but that ain’t saying much. In my opinion, this freakin “targeting” rule has turned everyone into being scared sh!tless to make a tackle. Joe is probably turning in his grave.
We are not living in the 1980's anymore Dorothy.

I loved Joe as much as the next guy, but he's dead, Jerry's in jail, Fran is 72 years old and retired 17 years ago and Scrap is not coming back. The days of assistant coaches staying on staff for 30+ years are long gone.

Plan B transferred to Kentucky, Roberson was recruited to play a different style of offense we currently run. Agree they had two weeks to game plan for Illinois. Yurcich did not send anyone out, not his call.

Lee looked more like his 2019 self. It seems like the Oline worked harder on run blocking and forgot how to pass protect this week. RB's do seem to dance too much and not bounce when the hole isn't there. I scream all the time about this.

Everyone on this offense seems to have regressed as the season has worn on with the possible exception of Lee.

Jahan Dotson says hold my beer.

Tackling has been terrible. Everyone wants to just throw a shoulder instead of wrapping up.

The thread asked for honest analysis. I gave my opinion you gave yours

OK let’s live on 2016 and a few special players forever. Cool
Franklin still lost three games with players like Barkley, Godwin, Hamilton, Mcsorley and Gesicki on offense in 2016

We ain't beating MSU. 7-5. Not good. We are stuck with Franklin so hopefully he pulls it together over the next couple of years.

This is a shared loss, bad coaching and poor execution. We cannot make clutch plays and that is as much player execution but also coaching. Pry calls the wrong defense and we get burned for a 47 yard TD to a guy on a gimpy ankle but is so wide open he was in his own zip code. Can't make this crap up. Call a fake FG, why?

It's just silly to suggest we have no chance to beat MSU. The main reason these losses have been so frustrating is because we've been so close. 4th quarter leads against Iowa and Michigan. Having the ball late against OSU where a TD gives us the lead. Now Illinois? Forget about that game. Honestly, I almost fear the Rutgers game more than MSU. A noon game, at home, coming off a loss. Probably very little energy from the crowd, at least initially. Rutgers probably a little better than we think. We're going to need to come out sharp and ready to play against Rutgers. MSU? I have no concerns that we'll be ready to play. We might not win but I'd bet you a nickel that we're in a position to win late in the game. That's our MO. Unfortunately, it's also our MO that too often, we fail to close out a game that is there for the taking.

But here’s the problem with your analysis. It’s every week. It’s every bad loss in a big game. We always make these same mistakes, and we always lose by a few points. I saw a stat yesterday that if you ignore last year, 10 of PSUs last 13 losses have been by a touchdown or less. Also 4 of the last 5 yrs, we have followed our first loss with another loss.

This is coaching. this is not keeping the team focused. This is not knowing how to close games out and win Tight games. The big games are going to be close. You aren’t Blowing out OSU. You need to learn how to win those close games. Franklin doesnt.

At least it is Senior day. Hopefully they get up for this one to send the seniors out with a win in their final home game.

Coaching can only do so much. It ultimately comes down to execution. Coaches don't throw, catch, tackle, commit penalties or kick. The fact that they are able to be close must be inspite of coaching?

All coaches make mistakes. Even Joe. Like running into the middle of the line 4 straight times against Alabama. Some times its execution some times its coaching too. Head scratching to fake fg from 2 yard line. Go for it or take the points.

They are only bad decisions when they don't execute. Easy to second guess after the fact on an anonymous message board

Pretty much everything you’ve just stated, Susie, points to the fact that your Mike Yurcich sucks. Among other statements you made, your points about Roberson speaks volumes. You might as well just be calling Yurcich a complete moron.
