Happy Thursday all,

Following the commitment of Jameel Brown on Monday, I just wanted to provide a full update for you guys as to where things stand from a hoops recruiting perspective.

Let’s start with Dereck Lively, since I’m sure that’s what most of you will be wondering about. Things haven’t moved very much since my last update. Penn State still doesn’t lead, but Lively maintains an interest. Penn State is in wait-and-see mode, and they don’t really mind that. The likelihood of Lively being a one-and-done guy if he does come allows them some flexibility scholarship wise to pursue other big men without waiting to see what Lively does.

These are the four big men in their main group. Not a big preference from the staff as to who they take, it’s whoever commits first.

Outside of those kids, the remaining big target in this class is Otega Oweh. Penn State might be the leader here, but he is by no means a lock, that much is very clear.

Oweh and a big man would take this class to five, which is their target number, but obviously that will go to six if Lively picks Penn State and they’re more than fine with that.

I would also note that, while Jameel Brown might help a little bit with recruiting Lively and Oweh, his teammates with Team Final (and Lively at Westtown), it probably isn’t going to move the needle that much. These are independent kids from strong families, they aren’t likely to allow Brown to sway their decisions that much.

There was a report recently that AJ Brown will be up to visit in September but from my understanding those plans have been canceled. Penn State is focused on Oweh. Things can always change, but my read is that Brown is not an option anymore.

With things narrowed all the way down in 2022 they’re beginning to think about 2023 a little bit, too.

As I mentioned previously, Ohio SF Devin Royal was on campus last weekend. He is a priority.

Here are a handful of other names to watch out for:

You've probably noticed that the rankings have had an update. I will round all of those up in a story tomorrow at some point, or over the weekend at the latest.
