"Jim McNamara, Stillwagon’s attorney, alleges that his client’s reputation was damaged and he lost $500,000 defending himself due to the intentional misconduct of Delaware police detectives [pertaining to Stillwagon's alleged road rage]. McNamara said at least two detectives coached and coerced witnesses, destroyed evidence and probably misled grand jurors.

“This was completely cooked up,” McNamara said of the charges that came out of a Sept. 30, 2012, incident between Stillwagon and Richard Mattingly....
McNamara said evidence showed that Mattingly -- who later admitted he had been drunk while driving his truck -- targeted Stillwagon on his motorcycle, following him aggressively for miles.

As the two turned into a parking lot on William Street in Delaware, Stillwagon fired his Glock handgun at the truck in what he said later was self-defense. He then hit Mattingly with the butt of his gun, and it went off....People still believe that Stillwagon was the assailant in the case, McNamara said.

“There was infinitely more information about him being accused than there was about him being acquitted,” he said. “A part of this is to make clear to everyone we can that he was always innocent and he never did any of these things.”

Here is link to Ytube video where Stillwagon and his attorney speak. Attorney at about 40 seconds asks why would police take the word of a known bad guy (parolee who admitted he was drunk) over a known good guy. Stillwagon said that an interim police chief wanted to get publicity for himself all over the Internet.

Cost the City of Delaware OH $6.5 mill in a settlement. Hope several people were fired, but wouldn't be surprised if no one was.

Several points. 1. As bad as the evidence was, the prosecutor still pursued it. (See his acquittal here) https://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/local/2013/10/04/Stillwagon-charges-dismissed.html 2. Often times all the police care about is their career and advancement and sometimes covering up their own mistakes. It is amazing the crap they tried to pull on Stillwagon. 3. In terms of Mueller, it demonstrates that there is no reason to give any politically motivated prosecutor the benefit of the doubt, particularly when he hires partisans like Andrew Weismann and Jeannie Rhee (Clinton's former attorney)
