McSorley had time to throw, but of course, he's mobile. Obviously Barkley found daylight. Some running plays blew up, but that's going to happen to the best lines from time to time. The biggest concern probably is McGovern with the high snaps. Overall, I was encouraged for the first game.

Your thoughts?

That R/O to the center of the line is still a bust. Akrons LBs jumped right in the hole and stopped SB in his tracks which has been the case for a couple years now.

I like the way McSorely moves to buy time. I think the OL will be solid for all the opponents, save possibly the two of most concern. But hopefully by then they should have had a lot of time to work together. They will get a feel for each other, anticipate each others read and reaction, and be able to better pick up stunts and blitz packages.

Is Andrew Nelson still hurt?

Totally anecdotal and admittedly based on one observation, but I watched Nelson during warm ups when all the OL ran out to the field and he could barely move. Again just an observation based on one moment in time. But he looked far from ready to contribute in that one moment.

compared to last year, the pass protection was 100% improved. last year, McSorley avoided many sacks. in fact i dont think the OL last year was any way better than the last year Hack was here. i thought the erratic snaps were similar to last year = no difference.

i think a few of the 3rd and short plays were a problem still. this week will be more of a test for that.

what is good re OL this year is the depth. Last year this was a big problem and when we got injuries we struggled. i dont think we ever played with our true starting OL in any game. we were substituting constantly..

If we're grading based on result, hard to not give the unit a solid A. There were big holes to run through and plenty of time for Trace to pass.

I worry about some run blitzing from better defenses and how that may disrupt Trace's ability to make a clean exchange on handoffs or pull in and run, but didn't see much on Saturday to lead me to believe anything other than an elite D front can keep the offense in check.
