...I think Cael being the head coach at Penn State is a perfect fit for both...
...Cael is flourishing in a place where there is outstanding appreciation for the sport in terms of available talent, administrative support, the most intimate arena and the largest and most hard-working fan base in the country...
...Penn State is reaping the rewards of
making an outstanding decision to hire Cael and provide him with the tools to build what is now the number one wrestling program in the country...and one that has attracted the most dedicated young men who aspire to reach the top step in their sport along with being outstanding students and ideal representatives of Penn State in the classroom and the community...
...both parties have succeeded and benefitted!!!...

Except the Midwest Wrestling Mafia. They are somewhat concerned

I'm not going to say I predicted the amount of success Cael has had. To be honest, the current state of the program is just ... surreal. I did believe that if we found the right coach and kept the best PA wrestlers from going elsewhere, that that would mean PSU could challenge for NCAA championships on a much more regular basis. Never would have predicted 6 of 7, though! I don't know that anyone could have predicted this much success this fast.

I'm just enjoying the ride!

One slight correction, not only is PSU the number one wrestling program in the country it is also the best college sports program in the country.

Cael's 1st interview as Penn State coach... He talked... DYNASTY. He can feel grateful... that's been accomplished.

Interview is a classic amalone.

Cael being Cael.
Calm thoughtful approach to
doing everything the right way.

Bringing people together,
united in a process to
achieve the best possible results.

Thanks for posting it here again amalone.

Is it just me or does Cael not get enough credit. I hear in the defense of the basketball program if you bring up the success of wrestling or hockey both on the field of play an in the stands. Well wrestling has this great tradition An it's a hockey area I've milked early hurried over pine grove mt for 36 years now to talk in Penn state wrestling an I've seen some pretty poor wrestling till Cael . I believe at Penn state during the Sandusky crap he had built the best college program in the country from a mediocre program to simply the greatest

Great comments TJ. All great qualities of an insightful leader and then going out and doing just that. Year after year. Like the poster. ;)

As impressed as you can get. But I'll bet he even raises that ceiling next year. Six champs would do it.

PSU's Wrestling Program was "mediocre" prior to Sunderland? Really? THIS LINK says otherwise. In the 15 years prior to Sunderland taking over (the 1998-1999 season, 1999 NCAA Championship), PSU had 66 All-Americans (4.5 per year) and finished 4, 10, 4, 5, 3, 2, 3, 3, 6, 10, 5, 3, 5, 7, 3 at the NCAA Tournament over the 15 year span 1998 to 1984 respectively (i.e., an average between 4th & 5th place over the span....IOW, relatively similar to the Iowa team over the last several years). During Sunderland's 11 year reign, PSU produced 27 All-Americans (2.5) per year and finished 17, 3, 11, 9, 23, 12, 6, 35, 25, 16, 4 at the NCAA Tournament over the 11 year span 2009 to 1999 respectively (i.e., an average of about 15th place over the span).

As the link provided above demonstrates, prior to Sunderland PSU was consistently a top program and arguably the 5th most prolific program in NCAA history behind Okie State, Iowa, Iowa State and Oklahoma in terms of average finish at NCAAs, production of AAs, production of National Finalists, production of Champions, etc.... Cael Sanderson has now elevated PSU from 5th all-time to 3rd all-time behind....

I knew that comment was very debatable I assure you I cheered them on as hard as I do know an you make a great point. But we're the ever a serious national championship contender we're the close yes but ? Yea they were top 5. Not bad but compared to the wrestling machine they are now what I witnessed over the years not close

Not sure I follow as PSU had recorded Team Titles before Cael, is one of the oldest wrestling programs in the Nation (one of only 5 to be wrestling for more than a Century I believe) and has placed 2nd or 3rd at Nationals many, many, many times in addition to winning it pre-Cael. Moreover, PSU was the 5th most prolific wrestling team in Collegiate history prior to Sunderland via multiple measures such as the production of All-Americans or Individual Champions. Not exactly sure what to tell you, but PSU was a Top 5 program prior to Sunderland and the statistics bear this out quite clearly. Cael has not only taken PSU back to where they had been under Lorenzo (and then Fritz) prior to Sunderland, but he has taken PSU past Iowa State and Oklahoma on the "all-time" greatness chart imho.

Franklin I believe we agree in most part but I hope we don't underestimate what Cael has done. As a proud psu fan isn't it great to debate how great our team is An has been. As we go into next year as psu fans we know we will win it again (as fans) an if your a fan of any other team your wondering how do we create a great upset . Cool place to be as a fan of any team. An I am. Dairy farmer we only work 7 days a week 365 caels example of making it fun of showing up everyday An getting better is a great example to me an I think to all

BTW, Minny had passed PSU as the 5th best all-time during the Sunderland years (Minny won their 3 all-time NCAA Team titles in 2001, 2002 and 2007), but Cael fixed that situation in his first 3 years at PSU....restoring PSU to 5th best all-time in the record books coming out of the 2011 season. Again, since that time, Cael has taken PSU past both Oklahoma and ISU in the record books to 3rd all-time....and will soon have PSU at double-digit Championships.

As always franklin get info I rarely post but visit here daily great info always. Ty.

All I know is that the guy who talks about NCAA crowns from 10 or 15 years ago is very much like that guy who says he beat you in that elementary tournament - meanwhile you're out there winning National Championships.
Or said another way, like clinging to that piece of Titanic driftwood saying, "She was one hell of a boat!".

What does it say if you celebrate mythical NC that nobody (and I mean nobody else) recognizes?
