How long will the honeymoon last for the new OC?

How long will the honeymoon last for the new OC?

  • until the first loss

  • until the first negative yardage play

  • until the first dropped pass

  • halftime of the Blue/White game

  • until the first game where we score under 30

  • not long

Surprised that no comments to fire him have been posted yet. Franklin is the kind of manager I liked on my team. Promote from within if possible. If not, it has to be a super hire with no chance that there is better talent on the team already. Hiring and training, player development, are superior on this team.

Bob has already called for his head in a basket!

Already saw a few people in other places complaining, so I would say for some the honeymoon has ended before it even had a chance to start. SMH.

It’s already over.

Attaboy!

Before looking at your options I was thinking the first punt in 2020 season. On second thought, I not sure it goes far beyond kickoff of the blue white game.

I was going to say the first incomplete pass of the BW game, but I'll give the benefit of the doubt with halftime.

It's a great hire. I don't see anybody complaining about this one. I expect a huge upgrade from Rayne. Was getting tired of the 3 yard runs and bomb it every series.

IMO, the amazing phenomenon with "blame" and the Penn State fan base is that the blame ALWAYS goes to the coaches, never towards the players. It's never that the players did not execute. Or the player simply got beat.

We give up a sack... blame the OL coach
We don't convert a 4th and 1 .... blame the OC
We drop a pass.... blame the WR coach
We give up a kick off return, miss a FG, or shank a punt... blame the Special Teams Coach
We allow the opposing team to waltz down the field a score a TD... blame the DC
We lose a game to a team with superior personnel .... blame the Head Coach

And most amazingly, the exact same Penn State fans who blame the coaches for EVERYTHING on a Saturday, will turn around on a Sunday and proceed to blame PLAYERS for everything during an NFL game.

You want to see people complain, just wait. That’s kind of the point of the thread.

That is definitely the new thing. Hell, there’s a discussion here blaming Rahne for the three picks thrown against Minny. In all the years I played sports I never remember blaming a coach for a loss....now it’s blame the coach for every loss. And people wonder why today’s generation is so soft and entitled.

Not just every loss but every unsuccessful play is an indictment of the OC. No matter a blown block, dropped pass, or just a great defensive play, it was Rahne’s fault

But what's amazing to me is that it's ONLY for Penn State.

For example, I have a good buddy who I watch Penn State games with. He is exactly what I describe above. During a Penn State game EVERYTHING is the coaches fault. ALL mistakes are because of the coaches.... He is also a huge Eagles fan. 24 hours later, when watching an Eagles game....It's a total flip. It's always the players. ALL mistakes are because the players suck. Loses are on the players. Interceptions, sacks, turnovers, missed coverages, dropped passes.... ALL players.

Eh must just be your friend is quirky. I have Eagles fan friends who the entire game their FB and Twitter feeds are them going off on the coaches, I am from Pittsburgh and the SOP is to blame the coaches as the primary and oft only reason the Steelers and Pens don't win more championships. Goalie lets up a soft goal? Fire Sullivan. WR bops a ball up into the air and a DB gets it for a pick 6? Fire Tomlin.

If you listen to enough sports talk, most fans of most fan bases are convinced the only thing that is keeping their team from winning it all is the coach, that the team wins despite the coach, and loses because of the coach. (I will admit less so in baseball, but that is more a reflection in how the game is constructed and that most goings on in baseball are baised on 100+ years of stats)

I think a lot of it is because college coaches get paid a lot and players don’t, so it’s okay to bash the coaches but the players are off limits. Whereas in the NFL, the players get paid so they are held accountable. It’s pretty dumb reasoning, but it’s there.

Honeymoon? Ain't gonna be no stinkin honeymoon. With all the money "we're" paying him, we will hold him accountable. "We'll" go easy on him compared to "other" fan bases.
