In previous offensive systems, we would have ridden Barkley to a 2000 yard season, but I think Moorhead's system is predicated on taking advantage of what the defense does. If he gets 1333, he'll be Penn State's all time leading rusher. He's certainly talented enough for that, and the O line will most assuredly be better. There are other factors, however: how many carries Sanders and other guys get, how many times McSorely keeps it himself, whether opposing defenses sell out to stop the run. I think this 1333 is a good bet though. Maybe another 1500 yard season is realistic (actually 1496 last year). What do you think his season rushing total will be this fall?

Barring injury, i think get gets 1,600. I think he has the ability to get 2,100, but there will be other folks getting carries: Miles S, Robinson, M Allen, etc

That seems reasonable- there should be no need for him to carry the entire load. But he'll still ruin a lot of defense's days.

I expect it to be his last season at Penn State and I think he will go full throttle. The passing game will keep the defenses honest. I say 1,800.

I personally think that Barkley is what gave McSorely and the WRs the chance to shine. He was head and shoulders above every other offensive threat last year (and still is the best O player), and virtually everyone loaded up to stop the run. If he played for Wisconsin, he's have 3000 yards. OK, maybe this is an exaggeration, but if he was with a team that wanted to run the ball as a priority. Moorhead's system is more of a take what they give you style.

I see him getting most of the carries in big game situations. Against lesser competition, think Sanders and Robinson get some experience.

Q: How many rushing yards does Saquon Barkley gain this fall?

A: None

This fall, or any fall stops his forward progress.

When he remains healthy, upright and moving forward, Barkley could exceed 1,500 yards this season. ;) May see an increased mix of Barkley's receiving yards in his totals.

Biggest limiting factors will be, as others have said include defenses stacking against the run.

JOMO's balanced attack options, are like being served delightful Sundaes on Saturdays, with lots of delicious ingredients.

Start off with a strong mix of Barkley.
Include a blend of additional talented RBs, a fleet of WRs and what may be an expanded and creative use of TEs, all topped by creamy smooth QB read option attacks to delight Nittany Lion fans of all ages!

;)

I don't think he will get any more and perhaps less than this past season. PSU is too deep and there should be no reason for SB to take a beating. I look for him to dramatically increase his catches and yardage in the passing game.

The balance the new offense offers with the experience of the 2nd year into it should make everyone more efficient and effective. If the play calling is as innovative as it was and who thinks it will digress, our offense will be difficult to stop cold. I believe we will opt into what the defense gives us a majority of the time and Barkley's elusiveness will allow him the extra yards many backs do not gain to reach his goals this fall. Of course the passing game will gain the attention of a stacked defense but that only opens up increased running lanes and opportunities for JoMo to shine as he mixes it up yet again this fall.

Good times to be had by all, except opposing defenses.

The one area our offense struggled in last season was controlling the clock. With an improved oline, I could see Franklin/Moorhead wanting to put an emphasis on the running game.

Unless the other RB's got much stronger and better with their pass blocking, I think 26 will be on the feild as much as last year. Sanders in particular was a liability in his pass blocking last season. Hopefully another year in the weight room helped, but some RBs don't like to block. We are very lucky to have a all around back like 26. Lynch was a great runner but his pass blocking horrible.

If he stays healthy, I think 1800 rushing and 500 receiving is possible.

I can't see any back taking snaps away from Barkley. Barring injury he's going to be on the field the large majority of the time. I doubt we'll see much change from last year in terms of plays for the backups. Sanders definitely isn't going to get many unless the game is over.

With 12 regular season games, conference championship game and two playoff games, 2500 seems reasonable
Saquon had 272 carries last year, 19 per game, 5.5 ypc. Add three carries to that and give him 7 ypc (he won't be getting caught behind the line so many times this year), would give him 2254. Sanders is going to get a lot of work, why not? I see Sanders getting at least ten carries per game, 6 ypc, 840 yards.

If Barkley gets 2000 and the team gets 3000 yards rushing, I would expect to see us in the hunt for the Big Ten East title again.

Who knows - Maybe CJF and JOMO would like to use Barkley to his fullest potential and get him over 2,000 yards.

Not saying they would go away from the core strategy of a balanced attack, exploiting what the defense gives you. But there aren't many Barkley's in a coach's career.

If he starts strong and avoids injuries, maybe they loosen the reins and let their Secretariat type runner blow it wide open.

Just some "what if" thoughts.
Your mileage (and Barkley's) may vary. ;)

I do think Barkley will be relaxing on the bench a few games this year after a couple 150-200 yard first halves. He was dinged up a few times last season missing some playing time and the first half of the season when the offensive line was coming together, he couldn't get things going consistently. He also had just 12 carries vs OSU and 15 vs Michigan. I think he'll have a heavier role in those games. I just really feel like o-line has the ability to look like it did vs Iowa the majority of the year and our offense will do whatever it wants. Barkley is going to get his carries though. He's a unique talent and he's earned this opportunity. He's set up for a ridiculously good year. I do think that because he's such a good receiver that he'll take away some of his rushing yards replacing them with receiving yards. Hope they find that balance of a healthy workload and keeping him fresh and healthy.
