i know I'm looking ahead but that's what we do as fans. I think a strong argument can be made that Bo faced much better competition this year with
4 common opponents

Rutgers
Dean. 16-3
Bo Fall

Okie St
Dean. 14-6
Bo. Fall

Lehigh
Dean. Fall
Bo fall

tOSU
Dean. 10-5
Bo. 8-2

Here is the thing to remember about the final match of the night in St Louis: Bo only needs to score ONE MORE point than Dean. He does not have to "force the action", he does not have to "force Dean into throws", he does not have to "make it a high scoring match". He has to score one more point. That means, he can win, 3-2 or 3-1.

That's what he is going to do.

Handicap it when we know the traps of the transitive property? No data is going to give us even a smidgeon of a clue on this one, imo.

I'd personally call it slight edge to Dean, as he's the returning champ. Slight edge is a toss-up call when it's one bout.

There was an Iowa training book that came out in the Gable years that said that the coaches were asked to vote on who was the fittest athlete in the finals one year. The wrestler who got the vote got the win in each case. How do you evaluate fitness with two athletes that are so different?

Agree, thus one is just very difficult to call. Two very different wrestlers with somewhat contrasting styles - Dean is never out of position and rarely gets coutered.....Bo likes to "mix it up" and doesn't mind taking some chances and getting into some wild scrambles. Bo is going to go out and try to score, that's how he wrestles - he'd rather control his own destiny, and occupy the other wrestler, with his own offense....even if he scores first, he,s not going to crawl inot a shell offensively and try to make it stand up.

I tend to think Dean has the advantage in an ultra low-scoring affair (winner has 4 or less points), but Bo has the advantage in a higher scoring affair.

The freestyle match, in 2014, was interesting: Dean did not shoot once, but won on 2 pushouts.

Watched the match a few times an Dean had the utmost respect for Bo and a few pounds and more "man" muscles! Really am looking forward to them meeting in the finals. 3 years in the PSU wrestling room are sure to make a difference;)

It's almost impossible, it's even money. Though I certainly wouldn't bet against Bo the way he's wrestling right now.

If Bo wrestles the way he can which he will Dean is in trouble....

An interesting take on this post....if Bo wins, what will the score be; if Dean wins, what will the score be? I'll go with 9-5 if Bo wins and 4-2 if Dean wins.

I understand where you are coming from on the score being low if Dean wins but one thing to consider is that Bo likes to go big move and against someone as strong as Dean, that could land him on his back.. needs to really wrestle it smart..

Question, both are having outstanding seasons. Imagine they both continue to dominate and meet in the finals. Assume it's a tight match, how will the loser's season rank all time among all other 2nd place finishers?

Did Bo wrestle Dean in one of those last chance Olympic qualifiers last year? I thought they wrestled a similar match that they had in 2014 where Dean won on some pushouts, but I can't seem to find it. I could be mistaken. In any event, I think Dean wrestles conservatively making it a one takedown type match. It goes to Bo's advantage if he tries to let it fly. It could see an overtime match coming down to a scramble to end it.

Dean got two points on pushouts, in a 3-2 win.

There will not be two points awarded in this years' final, on pushouts.

Bo likes to win. Bo can win in many different ways. A 3-2 win over Dean, is still a win.
