Hunker down, boys and girls; high wind warnings

Charge your cell phones
Clue.....the cell phones can't communicate with the cell towers collapsed by the high winds. o_O

Just kidding, the towers in your area are designed for 90 mph basic wind speeds. With the factors of safety included in the engineering, the survival rating for steel cellular towers is around 135 to 150 mph wind speeds.

Just test-fired my little Honda generator here on the shore of Lake Ontario... two years ago we were without power nearly one week after 70mph gusts pushed my neighbors 60’ pine trees into our service wires (my 90’ trees stayed up, somehow) ...

Crossing my fingers...

This was after the first round of clean-up:

Aftermath ...

Nearly one week!? Hah, pay your taxes!

Heavy Winds Warning, however do not take shelter in a strip mall massage parlor.

Sixty? SIXTY!?!!! That's called a light breeze in hurricane season in Florida.

Wind gusts destroyed our weather station mount bringing the unit crashing to the ground yesterday morning. Now it's sitting in the garage reporting quite well but 0 on the wind speed monitor. We saw gusts in excess of 40 mph but now, sadly, we do not know the maximum gust recorded. It certainly was and still is very windy here in north central Ahia.

I have to decide to try to repair or station or replace it. I have used the data for personal enjoyment and planning since the installation so I'm sure we will have a workable unit in place shortly.

Gusts hit 65 at the CLE airport. My TV and wifi went out but TV was back in an hour. WiFi was out until this morning.

Wind was up from the south, if it came in from the north over the lake I would have sustained damage. Weird in that it was very low sustained wind, just very gusty

Hope all yer trees are still upright.

The Ohio Tpke was shut down due to high winds for a day. That is unusual although it does parallel lake Erie for most of the middle & western half of the highway.

Lost 3 shingles. Neighbors lost more and some folks lost siding in my area. No trees down which is a plus so not too bad thus fae all things considered.

The reason why it is windy in Pennsylvania is because Ohio State blows and Rutgers sucks.

Power down going on 6 hrs in NNY. Like I care. Fired the wood stove, seared/baked a tenderloin on/in the propane stove. I read anyway. Yay candles. They'll get around to it when they do. Life is good.

I'll start bitching if I have to empty the freezer outside or run the trash pump when the sump pump hole fills.

Yesterday was worse when the thawed snow and rain dropping off the roof flooded above the level of my basement window and forced it's way in. It turns out 60 gal of water leaking into the basement becomes a pain in the ass.

I have lived in my current home >21 years. Never had a power outage of more than a few hours, at most. Sometime yesterday it went out and now they tell me it will be out until FRIDAY AT 11:00 PM. Adjusted pretty quickly--shower at the office, battery-powered jumpstart kid from my boat has a USB port for phone charging. All in all a PITA, but not as bad as I would have guessed.
