Trump and his Administration are getting KILLED over it. All of the former First Lady's are robustly condemning it. Even Melania, who appears to be a nice person but has all the intestinal fortitude of a collie, felt obligated to come out with a statement against this policy.
Ted Cruz, Susan Collins, and a host of other Republican congressmen have come out against it. The governor of Colorado, himself a Republican, just issued an executive order prohibiting the use of any State of Colorado resources to implement or enforce this policy.
Kristjen Neilsen's attempt to say the separation of immigrant children from their parents "Is not our policy, Period." did not work. Neither did her subsequent and somewhat contradictory statement that her Department is fully behind the policy, and that it is required by law. She is now left wondering why the hell she took this job in the first place. The big sow would not even get up there and attempt to defend the policy. "Let Kristjen do it!"
