It wondered why employers can't find employees if the employment situation was so bad. It talked about a restaurant owner who said he has to set up 10 interviews to get one or two qualified candidates. He says that people don't show up for the interviews and the people he hires don't show up for work. Other business owners were interviewed and said similar things.
That also interviewed employment agencies and department of labor officials. They agreed that it was difficult to get people to work and blamed two things. People getting paid more to stay home and people unable to work because they have to be home with their kids who are taking classes virtually. Schools are open for in person learning but people are opting for virtual.
I'm sure people will be more motivated to get back to work if we give them $2,000 and extend their unemployment benefits.
