In one of the tourney preview threads, Roar laid out his "3 keys". While the rest of us were talking about Bonus Points being critical, I recall being surprised that he didn't. He was more focused on 'survive and advance'. Turns out he was right - it wasn't a bonus point edge that won it for us - it was 8 AAs, 5 finalists, 4 champs!

He knows more than us... at least more than me.

You can interpret the final results a few ways, but it is clear the increase in points from 133, 141 and 197 from last year to this year was greater than the margin of victory this year.

Maybe I gave Roar too much credit - found his post. It was probably pretty solid but not perfect:

1) Number of champs. We need the big points from winning a weight class.

2) Number of silver medalists. Along with several, say 3, champs, another couple of runner-ups are needed.

3) Other placers. You may ask, “is Roar nuts?”. He just made his top 3 all similar. All I can say is “yep, it’s that important”.
I will always have bonus points on my list, but this year, with the talent on the Buckeye team...placements first, IMO.

4) Bonus point differential. A 10 point edge over the closest competition would be awesome. I’m hoping for at least an 8-point edge.

We dodged a bullet this year, when tOSU only placed 2 in the finals, imo. If that had happened, PSU may have needed higher placements at some weights to win the title.
