It's frustrating for me as a conservative to see the debt and deficit continue to climb unabated with Trump in office. While the economic turn-around he has brought about is exceeding all expectations (including mine), the massive federal spending is much harder to tame.
The thing is, Trump and the GOP could easily cut spending on a massive scale, but it would be near-political suicide.
I think the strategy here, and we'll see if it works, has been to focus on reducing illegal immigration by letting ICE do it's job and securing the border which will put us in a better position to reduce entitlement spending later on.
The alternative is that Trump pulls the plug on entitlements too fast (like a band aid) and tens of thousands will suffer or be inconvenienced, which would hurt Trump politically.
