CJF icing the kicker to preserve the 0. He then said (paraphrasing) It's about me doing what's best for our team. Players coach. I also like how he takes the heat dead on and keeps the players out of the controversy limelight for the most part. He is pushing the right buttons to make it happen.

well the much could be said about the Ga State coach trying to kick a FG while down 56 points.

I was very vocal in calling out Nardouchenozzle last week for calling a time out with 23 seconds left in the game last week while trying to score a TD down 33-14. it was pointless. take the knee and go home with the L.

So basically, you are saying QUIT? No thanks.

Why? It was 4th down. Were they supposed to go for it on 4th instead? Or just purposely turn the ball over on downs?
I agree here. I'm totally fine with Ga St. trying to kick the field goal especially on 4th down. Can't blame the guy for trying to at least get some points on the board. I also don't blame franklin for icing him. I don't care if it was out of spite or not, but in a legit game we are calling the timeout. So why not call it there?

No prob with the GaSt coach going for the FG - points on the board for his team is a moral victory.
No prob with Franklin icing the kicker - preserving the shutout is a feather in the cap for the defense.
Compete until triple zeroes baby.

I have no problem with the GASt coach trying for the field goal to get on the board, but I also have no problem with Franklin trying to ice the kicker to preserve the shutout. It's gamesmanship. It's football. The GASt coach wanted to get on the board and Franklin wanted the shutout. They both did what they could in an attempt to get what they wanted. In this instance, it worked out for Franklin.

I watched the 2nd half of the Pitt game on TV with some friends and at the time I shared your opinion and then a guy in our group said "You're thinking like a fan." He went on to say that the competitiveness and pride is what the fans don't always get. Pitt wants to get that late TD and you can bet the D wants to keep them out of the end zone just as bad, again for pride and competitiveness. In fact the D wanted them to try and get that late score and would have less respect for them had they drained the clock and walked off. Looking at it that way, I think he's right and that perspective changed my mind on the matter. Don't know if he's right or wrong but it made sense to me.

Honestly I think Franklin reacted to the crowd booing. In the long run, however, nobody remembers or cares that JF called a TO while up 56 points with 11 seconds left on the clock. (except maybe the GSU coach)

And he walked away with a big pay check to go with the shutout.

Before or after the time out, it was still a 30 yard FG. The coach should be upset with his kicker for missing it.

in the post game show Franklin said that they were using 4th stringers across the board but that we have no 4th string fg block unit so they were having trouble lining up and that is why they called the time out

Yea but this response doesn't exactly jive with what he said in the on-field interview after the game. He sounded much more annoyed than someone who was upset because the 4th string field goal block wasn't lined up correctly.

I think punching bags like GA ST deserve not only a big payday from PSU but also a certain number of participation points so they can leave Happy Valley feeling good about themselves.
