If Kershaw was able to pitch tonight, why not just start him?

Darvish gave up 5 before the 3rd inning.. Then Kershaw came in and has been mowing them down since.

BTW, Springer is pretty much MVP if Houston wins. Be interested if he gets it if LA wins.

Was just thinking the same thing. The old timers did it with no pitch counts.

No chance he gets it if LA wins.

Because MLB is now controlled by the “quants”

Be interesting, I can't tell you who would get it from LA.. Even in loss it be hard to keep it away from a player who has set like 5 records this series. 30 Total bases is insane.

He’s been the best player for sure but just can’t see it going to the losing team. Yes it would be interesting.

I couldn't believe they left Davish in after the base hit to start off the second inning...then, they didn't even have anyone warming up. So he then gives up the three run homer which, pretty much, sealed the deal.

.......and the Dodgers thought Don Mattingly was a bad manager.

Houston wins it.

Morton with 4 shutout innings to save it

Houston could be a dynasty with the young talent they have.

you dont know if he would have been available for only one inning but it turned out to be more---

but that could also be the competitor in Kershaw to do more

it is an all hands on deck game

Some of the time baseball managers, like football coaches and coordinators, get too cute for their own good (IMO), going by "metrics" instead of what just seems right.

Kershaw pitched Game 1, and then Game 5. If Roberts wanted Kershaw available to start a possible Game 7, then they should have started him in Game 4.

He pitched 4 innings in Game 7, which is probably all he had in the tank after pitching Game 5.

And FWIW, if Kershaw was the magical answer, then why did he not win Game 5 when he had a 3-run lead?

Darvish has been a great pitcher for the Dodgers this year. Of the 2 starters for Game 7, he seemed to have the better track record. For whatever reason, he really was a mess in Game 7. Reportedly, he didn't look sharp in warmups.

Yet for all the discussion of why not Kershaw, or why Darvish, or any other questions about the pitching in Game 7, the bottom line was that the Dodgers didn't hit all that well in the WS, and stranded runners on base throughout Game 7.

I have heard this debate all morning and IMO it's like asking why don't you start your closer? The answer is because the late innings are where most games between two good teams are won or lost. The theory with Kershaw is/was maybe he can go 2,3, 4 innings. Get through the early innings with the game tight, then he can be the bridge to your closers. Perfectly sound theory.
One other thing we should not discount, but for some reason nobody in the media wants to go there, Kershaw is one of the great pitchers in modern baseball history and has been an absolutely horrible post-season pitcher. That's a fact. Given his very long post-season history, including just a few days earlier, Dave Roberts probably had just as much confidence in Darvish, who was ouststanding down the stretch, as he did in Kershaw. Baseball is a long season and Kershaw has been a guy who is terrific until September. I don't think he struggles because it's the post-season. I think he struggles because after 220-250 innings he is not the same guy he was in June.

I am a Rangers fan insomuch as they're the local team. Which is to say I'm familiar with Darvish. He would throw +100 pitches (it's a cultural thing in Japan) and give you +10 strike outs, but I always felt the Rangers couldn't develop him to his fullest potential. In that regard I feel the Dodgers are on the right track. That said, when they announced Darvish was starting Game 7 I knew the Astros had a chance. Being in the same division as the Rangers they're familiar with Darvish, and it showed.

Astros pitching was no better to start, just the Dodgers offense was miserable. 10 people left on base?
