Lee, Manville, Hall, and ZR all won cadet world titles right? Has a team ever had that many champs in the line up at once? That is would pretty damn impressive by sanderson if he could pull this off. Heck 3 champs is outright scary.

WHEN, not if, Spencer Lee commits to Penn State he most likely will RS as a freshman. The lineup for the '17-'18 season will look something like this.
125 SURIANO
133 CORTEZ
141 NICK LEE
149 RETHERFORD
157 JOSEPH
165 NOLF
174 HALL
184 NICKAL/MCCUTHEON
197 CASSAR/NICKAL
285 NEVILLS

That's the damn 1993 Dallas Cowboys!

I doubt it. Until recently the Cadet World championships wasn't something that had the same attention it has today. I know a guy who won FILA's either in 2006/07 (think it was both years actually) and after he won they told him he could go wrestle in the World tournament, but it wasn't the big deal it is now.

Verkleeren hasn't committed yet either. Just sayin'.

surprisingly difficult to look up past results. Below are the USA wrestlers that won gold medals in FILA Cadet World Championships (in freestyle).

2015: Yianni Diakomihalis, 58 kg; Jarod Verkleeren, 63 kg; Gable Steveson, 100 kg
2014: Spencer Lee, 50 kg; Mason Manville, 69 kg; Mark Hall, 76 kg
2013: Aaron Pico, 63 kg
2012: Zain Retherford, 63 kg
2011: Adam Coon, 100 kg

Cadets World Championships were restarted in 2011. I can't figure out how long it was on hiatus.

Tom, you may already know this, but I find the UWW website to be pretty decent regarding past results. Goto https://unitedworldwrestling.org/database, select event, select World Championships (for event), select LL (for style, LL = freestyle), and cadets (for agegroup). Hit search and all the results are there. 1999 in Poland was the last before the hiatus. Harry Lester won gold for US.

Much appreciated. I actually had that site open early in my search, but ended up going with other sites, which lead to my frustration. I should have continued searching on the UnitedWorldWrestling.org site.

Do you think he will go to PSU? Tough seeing where he fit depending on growth of course.
No insight, was literally just saying. I don't think we'll have a need at his likely weight for years, but that won't stop the coaches if they see things differently in the room, or if they see him as a special talent.

What I find fascinating about Verkleeren is that he has yet to finish higher than 4th at states, or even win regionals -- but is a freestyle national and world champ. We all know why -- because he has mastered the freestyle cross-ankle roll. It's still an interesting contrast to ponder.

Who is Nick Lee? Is that Spencer Lee? If so, he wrestled at 110lbs at Junior Worlds. Is he going to put on 31lbs? There is no Nick Lee on the roster. Everyone seems so sure Spencer Lee will commit, I hope you are right.

Kade Moss will be a RSSR that year allowing Nick Lee to redshirt

Nick and Joe Lee are brothers from Evansville IN, who committed to PSU a few weeks ago. 2017 and 2018.

To add, he's currently ranked #1 in folkstyle at his weight class. And I think you would be hard pressed to argue anyone below him for #1 based on folkstyle results only. Goes to show you how stacked his weight class has been in PA the last couple years.

Shameless ETR plug: Verkleeren, #2 Bierdumpfel and #6 Hong will all be at Escape the Rock this year along with a few other tough 145s (Matt Lattanze, Garrett Beam, Brendan Lamey, Seth Baney, Felix Belga, Lucas Martoccio and a freshman from Paulsboro, NJ who I think will make some noise). Should be a great bracket.

Thanks. I missed that. The recent Heavy Weight commit from Florida should be added as a possibility. It seems he has progressed fast in a short time.

I think he will have a difficult time starting with Nevills there, but like this year proves anything can happen.

The middle weights and future recruiting are fascinating to me.

Tristan Law and Gary Dinmore can, I believe, redshirt this year, so they are around for potentially 4 more years. Retherford has this year, plus 2 more at PSU. Cenzo can redshirt his year, leaving 4 additional years for him. Nolf is a RS freshman, so he's got this year plus 3 more. Kade Moss has this year plus 2 more.

Then you have to factor in Nick Lee joining the team in 2 years, and Joe Lee joining in 3 years, plus Mason Manville joining next year (if he doesn't go to the OTC).

Then you look at the elite guys in PA in the middle weights. Verkleeren is a HS junior. Sasso is a HS soph. They both look like 149 lbers, though Sasso has grown some in recent years, so perhaps he's going to get bigger. (In that vein, Joe Lee was up a weight at S32, and looks to have room to fill in over the coming years.) Hong is also a candidate for the top part of the middle weights, and he's a HS junior. Plus, on the horizon, and likely to grow, are Teasdale (HS soph), Busiello (HS fresh -- from NY), Chlebove (HS fresh), and I'm not including all the elite PA guys that could be on the coaching staff's radar.

I don't see how all of them can fit in, and can almost guarantee that not all of them will go to PSU. But if recent years have taught me anything, it's that the coaching staff will go after elite talent even if it does not appear that there is a strong need at their projected weight.

Should be a lot of fun to see how it all plays out in the coming years.

I ask because I don't know.

If a backup wrestler decides to transfer so that he can start for another team, how willing would Cael be (has been) to grant a release so that the wrestler would not have to sit a year? (I can't remember, did Bubba Jenkins have to sit a year?)

More generally, in recruiting, do coaches ever promise: "if any of you studs around the same weight just can't crack the starting line up, we will usually grant you a release (if you transfer out of the B1G)."

I think Resheed goes to 184 or even 97...He is huge and having a really hard time making 165..Way bigger than Bo now....

Jenkins did not sit at Arizona State. He left PSU before the end of that fall semester and was shirting that year anyway.

Cael has granted releases for a couple guys who graduated in 4 yrs and had an opportunity to start elsewhere for a 5th year in grad school. Justin Ortega going to Clarion immediately comes to mind. I'm not sure if any were on more than books money (nor is that any of my business).

Not sure who transferred away before graduating for non-disciplinary reasons. Other than Jake Kemerer (who didn't fit with the coaches), drawing a blank.

I'm not sure how many guys really would. They tend to all love Penn State. Dirk Cowburn certainly could have, but chose to finish his degree at PSU without wrestling, rather than transfer away and start.

One factor for any wrestler that wants to transfer within the Big Ten is a Conference rule that requires a student-athlete to sit one year, and lose one year of eligibility, ala Jered Cortez.

Cael told me at a Coaches Caravan it's much easier to find lightweights that are ready to go when I asked him about recruiting, so I'm thinking his plan and roster is perfectly stacked.
