best prepare for the Rose Bowl.

1) Ron Vanderlinden
2) Tom Bradley
3) Fran Ganter
4) Kerry Collins
5) Ki-Jana Carter
6) Jeff Hartings
7) Brandon Noble
8) Chris Mazyck
9) Marco Rivera
10) Jerry Sandusky (*)

(*). This is a phone call / visit I'd like to make for no other reason to gauge how closely Jerry still follows PSU Football and whether most of his mental faculties are functioning.

WTF you talking about?

You could also contact Connor Cook and Mark D'Antonio, they did it a whole lot more recently.

And the only contact the last person on your list needs, should happen in the yard in Greene county prison.

Tom Bradley had a poor performance in the 2008/2009 Rose Bowl when Mark Sanchez found every seam in our zone defense. After a while, we needed to try a different strategy.

True. As I have said a million times, that 2008 USC team is not running out of that tunnel any time soon. That was Carroll's final NFL team, and nobody in the nation was beating that team. That team would have beaten Florida or Oklahoma by 3 touchdowns also.

With that said, you sure as hell were not going to beat them with Anthony Scirotto and Mark Rubin back there diving at air.

My main takeaway from that game was an asskicking and Jordan Norwood getting a near-death experience from Rey Mauluga. Their coach launched himself to a Super Bowl on the heels of it.

I predict quite a different story this year but that remains to be seen.

That was an NFL defense that tackled like an NFL defense: There were at least 20, violent, vicious hits on PSU ball carriers and receivers in that game. For christ sake, even when PSU got into the end zone to tie it at 7-7, Clark took a vicious, hard hit when Matthews threw him literally five yards into the end zone.

"WTF" ........doesn't even BEGIN to encompass that post

It's a good thing you posted this. Up until this point I was pretty sure Penn State did not know if it really wanted to win the Rose Bowl. Clearly if they don't follow your lead they do not.
Ali makes this thread worthwhile.

I sat about 20 rows behind our bench in that game, and it was like trying to solve some kind of riddle behind a mystery, trying to figure out who was actually calling our offense OR our defense: Most of our coaches including both coordinators and our head coach, were in the press box. We were literally "winging it" against an NFL team. We had zero chance in that game and the only reason it was close was because of Pete's respect and love for Joe, when he obviously took his foot off the gas in the third quarter and ran nothing but off tackle plays until he finally had to go back to calling the game, at which time Sanchez promptly smoked Scirotto for about the 7th time in the game and hit Ron Johnson, followed shortly by yet another violent Matthews sack of Clark.

This time we have Allen, Golden, Haley, and Reid, and this time we have a level playing field. That time, we uh...did not.

Can we actually debunk the myth that this is an "away game"?

1. USC plays home games at the Colisseum, not the Rose Bowl
2. At USC home games, the visiting team does not bring 40,000 fans.
3. At USC home games, they don't wear white jerseys.
4. At USC home games, the end zones don't have both teams stencil written in them.

We have a good, decent shot at winning this game, no matter how many experts pick USC. If memory serves me right, exactly two people picked Penn State to win the B1G title game, out of about 100.

True, but they are, however, 3-1 in Bowl games and 10-7 at Penn State, in games decided by 7 points or less, including road games.
But PSU, under Franklin, hasn't yet played in a Major bowl game against a formidable opponent at a less-than-neutral game site.

WTF you talking about?
None of PSU's current coaches have ever coached in a "major bowl game".
You waited until December 20th, 2016 to start the worst thread of the year?

I am a lazy fellow, so can you do some research for me: when was the last time any of the coaches or players you listed participated in a major bowl game? Just curious to see how it relates to today's CFB.

Very true PPB, very true.

I'm willing to see what kind of game plan we come out with, and how the staff can keep this team fresh for this game. One of the keys, I think, is to not do all of the bullshit events that the Rose Bowl committee asks of the visiting team. I think Franklin sending them out later than most is a good thing, lets see what develops.

Sam Darnold hasn't even started a football game against a team that isn't in the Pac Ten, so there is that also.

But hey, according to everything I hear, he is John Elway, Dan Marino, and Andrew Luck all rolled into one.

I'm just a "discussion inciter"

Good grief

Are you trying to out STOOPID Gunsie?

I gotta' tell ya'........this post is a strong contender for post of the bizzaro year
That said, there ain't NO FREAKING WAY you are gonna' take the title from Gunsie

He kicks ass in the STOOPID game 24/7/365
His consistency and all-around effort will trump you - - - even if you do manage to come up with the single dumbest post of the year

Well off the top of my head CJF was on staff at MD when they played in the orange bowl But I guess the orange bowl isn't major

I believe that was Taylor Mays that nearly murdered Norwood.

And yet you offer no reason whatsoever as to why Franklin & Co shouldn't consult "those that have gone before them"as to how to best prepare for the fishbowl experience of the Rose Bowl.

That was the basis of my OP, which obviously was completely lost on you.

Rest assured, your "point" was not lost. :)

Franklin and staff, still with a hand tied behind their backs, took a team to the playoff (before they got screwed out of it) this year. They might beat USC, but if they don't, it's not because this staff isn't up to the task.

*** Clears throat*** Pac 10 has not existed for the last 6 years... Try to keep up ...:)... Hell yeah, Utah plays B1G style ball and beat them...
