I didn't have a huge issue with the DeChellis hiring. He was a head coach that had success albeit in the Southern Conference. He started so far behind the eight ball that it was going to take time and unfortunately every time they made a little progress there was nothing behind that group, so it started all over again.yeah but again, it was far better than the alternative that our AD ended up choosing
yes, it was. that's some major revisionist history right there.I think it fair to argue there were better choices but it wasn't as if DeChellis was a total head scratcher.
Penn State was pretty clear that their candidates had to have head coaching experience so that ruled out all the guys that had only been assistant coaches up to that point. They also had to be cheap. Penn State wasn't going to be investing high dollars into the basketball coach. That was one of the problems with having Joe around. It was hard to justify paying other coaches more than Joe.yes, it was. that's some major revisionist history right there.
he was about the 16th best candidate who we heard about. it was probably the most disappointing day in the entire history of the program
they made the head coaching thing clear and it was a dumb criteriaPenn State was pretty clear that their candidates had to have head coaching experience so that ruled out all the guys that had only been assistant coaches up to that point. For all of Dunphy's success he has only won 3 NCAA Tournament games and 3 NIT games. It is hard to know if he could have been successful above he A10 level since he was never there.
How do you know the answer is no if you don't ask the question? Sure it's a big longshot but a phone call costs nothing and guys get the itch sometimes. One hundred percent of the shots you don't take you don't score.Who cares if they should if you know the answer is no? It's illogical. Georgia Tech calling Kirby Smart.
First move should absolutely be keep MS. And you are right we should not even try to get a coach like Wright. He will never take it so why even try. Let's set the sites on a less accomplished guy who we can roll the dice with and hope can do what no other no name coach has ever really done at Penn State in the history of the basketball program. The reason Penn State basketball has never risen is because it has not taken a chance. Yeah I get everybody saying he would never do it but to not make him an offer would be plain foolish. There is not one negative that can be given to making him a great offer. Not one.why not just keep shrewsberry here
he already decided to take the job here. give him a raise and he'll be happy for a few more years
relying on HOF coach coming out of retirement to go to the same place that botched his initial attempt to leave Hofstra is not a plan
this does not make sense. there is no reason to make another coach an offer right now. this is the exact time that you try not to change coachesFirst move should absolutely be keep MS. Longshot or Noshot? Let's stop pretending there's even a 0.000001% chance that if we can't keep Shrew he (or his agent) picks up the phone let alone says yesHow do you know the answer is no if you don't ask the question? Sure it's a big longshot but a phone call costs nothing and guys get the itch sometimes. One hundred percent of the shots you don't take you don't score.
If Shrew leaves guess who goes with him? All those kids you mentioned. The program will be gutted again just like when Chambers resigned. It will take 2-3 yrs again and then that guy will bolt. There is no big John this time. I’m confident Krafty will save him.The only good thing about the current situation regarding the possibility of Shrew leaving is the fact that if he does PSU would still have a decent chance to hang onto Carey Booth, who teamed with Njie and whoever other freshmen stay and a couple of incoming transfers would still make for a fun team to watch.
Joe screwed up a lot of things (sarcasm alert).Penn State was pretty clear that their candidates had to have head coaching experience so that ruled out all the guys that had only been assistant coaches up to that point.
