Rep. Ilhan Omar’s dismissal of the 9/11 attacks as “some people did something” is getting all the opprobrium it deserves. But there’s an aspect of her speech at the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) banquet on March 23 that’s not received appropriate attention. And it’s emblematic of the sinister duplicity of Omar’s activism: She issues calls for compassion out of one side of her mouth and appeals for contempt out of the other. Omar is, among other things, a run-of-the-mill flimflam artist. And the left eats it up.
Here are some choice excerpts from her speech, reproduced in order:
Endorsing contempt for protestors outside the banquet: “People like myself and many of the people in this room can care less about what they have to say.”
Embracing love in the face of Islamophobia: “What we know, and what Islam teaches us, and what I always say, is that love trumps hate. Every time we feel threatened, we show up with love and others stand with us in solidarity.”
Back to contempt: “I say raise hell, make people uncomfortable. Because here’s the truth. Far too long, we have lived with the discomfort of being a second-class citizen. And frankly I’m tired of it. And every single Muslim in this country should be tired of it. CAIR was founded after 9/11 because they recognized that some people did something and that all of us were starting to lose access to our civil liberties.”
And, finally, back to love: “Regardless of how hard Washington might get for me or your neighborhoods might get for you, you have to always remember that we have a mission as humans to love one another, to care for our neighbors, to raise compassionate children.”
You see? She’s just an all-loving, rage-filled, anti-Semitic victim of prejudice.
