Illinois seeks new mascot 9 years after Chief Illiniwek's removal

"The University's Spokesman in the link refers to it as a mascot." In 2005. Now you're into 2007. In order to "win" the math argument, you'd have to find a mascot reference by a University spokesperson prior to 1988 or 1989. Then tell me you know who the initials CT stand for.

There is no obfuscation. You would have to prove you were fully knowledgeable of all the details prior to 1988. However, I am uninterested in your wrong-decade opinions and your own obfuscation of the real issues. Ciao!

I guess you could check the 1975 Illio. Do I have to do al the research?

Well, you did say whites can't prove something isn't racist, so...guess you will have to do all the work for us ignorant masses. Better get started!

They take statements from University spokespersons in the Illio? I'd like to see that. Please post such a University Spokesperson statement from said 1975 Illio.

No matter how you want to spin semantics instead of using context, no one ever considered the one in-game activity (not even in-game, halftime when no game is being played) of the Symbol to be equivalent to the sort of in-game activities performed by Mascots of other sports teams.

Before the world's addiction to political correctness started running amuck, anyone who knew anything about the University of Illinois would have talked about or referred to Chief Illiniwek as a symbol / mascot in at least a 95% / 5% ratio.

Thanks for the education. I'll have a whole new appreciation for my partner's Illinois degree when I greet her in my home (in Illinois) tonight.

The original issue one, that's right, one NA student had was that the "dance" was not authentic enough

Yep. Looks authentic to me. I'm sure Native Chiefs danced exactly this way at halftime of their football contests before they were forced onto reservations and or exterminated.

And your point about dance authenticity? Has already been addressed in prior posts. That costume is authentic, made by the Peoria Tribe. You have now tacked on a different agenda at the end, and don't seem to like to review prior posts to make sure they haven't already been addressed before you make your replies.

Done with this game you keep wanting to play. Everything I have to say on the subject has been said. Rant on with your wild self!

For crying out loud, enough with the semantics of mascot vs. symbol. That isn't what this thread is about.

The Peoria tribe said it's not authentic and demeaning. They too, call it a mascot. Why do you make stuff up when the facts are out there for anyone to see?

Said in the year 2000. Not what they said when they originally made the costume or any other time until they changed their minds decades later. What is your problem? I'm not making anything up. You have no concept of how to apply an historical timeline for some reason here.

Just stop with your obvious baiting. Go bother someone else. Let the rest of these guys have their fun with making up fictional mascot names. I hear some at UIUC actually wanted some sort of Squirrel thingy....

I agree with you on that. Although you might want to consider there was a big hullaballoo over what "409" means to Penn Staters, and it's not about the number of wins...

How about using a contraction worker a few years. Then Maybe a switch to a military man of some kind to fit the "fightin" thing. If that gets old, maybe a policeman.

The fightin village people.

More seriously a firefighter in orange would honor firefighters, not be racist, and still can be the chief.
