Not sure why Jason, with 7 Falls, isn't on the list, all are D1, so they should count.

just a guess, but the NCAA chart only shows the top 10 in each category. Jason is likely tied with several others with 7 pins, but the total time it's taken him to get the 7 falls are behind (slower) than the 2 that are listed in the chart with 7 falls.

Thanks NoVa and Tom!! I guess honorable mentions aren't included.

Jason's aggregate time is 22:05.

This is where reduced number of matches "hurts" our guys. It's quite likely that Zain, Jason, and Bo would've picked up at least 2-3 falls/techs in Reno.

True, burnsie. The one measure where it does not "hurt" is Most Dominant Wrestler...since it is an average match score. It's a better reflection of overall dominance, and should be out in the next 2 weeks.

Dean is having a monster season but his figures there are inflated by the NCAA not accounting for non-pins. I guess the Most Dominant stat addresses that, but it's odd to include a mat time as somehow relevant here because it doesn't account for the seven minutes (7+ in OT matches) apiece where you didn't pin anyone, which Dean has fallen short of five times (Zain twice).

Anyway, if you add in the non-pin times, Zain's 10 pins came in 44:06 of mat time, and Gabe Dean's 10 pins took 54:48.

Bo's 9 pins came in 47:55.

Dean also hasn't pinned anyone ranked, even though he's only missed bonus against Nolan Boyd. Zain, Nolf, and Bo all have pins against AA-looking guys--Zain against Theobold and Laike Gardner, Bo against Gravina, Nolf against Jake Short. Dean did just miss a TF against Gravina.

Dang tikk, you on long break or what...
Waiting on an answer from a client, during which time nothing especially useful will happen. Math was easy on that though, just went to Wrestlestats and added the non-pin times to the NCAA figures for each. That NCAA stat has bugged me for awhile though; limiting the mat time to the universe of matches in which you got pins is kind of meaningless, at least presented as a cumulative figure. At least render that figure as an average so you can compare to apples to apples (easy to do with Dean and Zain both having ten matches, just move the decimal point over one, or 2:15 and 3:04, respectively), meaning that when x wrestler does pin, the pin occurs, on average, at this point of the match.

Thanks for explaining, my math skills are a little weak ;). Hope your client calls soon so you can enjoy dinner in an hour or so...

Yeah, the dates I posted are based on 2 facts. First, when data has been released in the past, second, date confirmations from NCAA publications.

The Coaches Ranking has come out this week (on Thursday) for several years, so that's what I guessed. Maybe today (Friday), maybe not...we'll see.

The Conference Allocations and the At-large dates are firm.

Thanks redblades!! For those that won't take the time to read the text above the rankings...5 matches required in your championship weight class, and at least 1 in the past 30 days. This explains the absence of some wrestlers.

Also, just a guess - but I suspect that each D1 coach submits a roster to be ranked, only 1 wrestler (starter) per weight - which may explain some absences as well.

Not really any surprises for PSU in the initial ranking, IMHO

125: Suriano - 3rd
133: No PSUer
141: Gulibon - 15th
149: Zain - 1st
157: Zain - 1st
165: Joseph - 4th
174: Morelli - 13th
184: Nickal - 2nd
197: Cutch - 9th
285: Nevills - 4th

Interesting to look at the initial rankings from the perspective of B1G

174 is the weight class where the B1G has the least power, so to speak. The highest ranked guy is #8 (Myles Amine - Michigan), followed by #9, Zach Brunson (Illini). Those are the only B1G wrestlers at that weight in the top 10. In the 10-20 zone, there is Alex Meyer (Iowa) ranked #13, Geno Morelli anked #14, and Devin Skatzka (Indy) ranked #19.

Contrast that with 125 (4 of the top 6), 133 (5 of the top 6; note there are 2 guys ranked 6th), 149 (3 of the top 5), 157 (the top 3), 165 (the top 4), 184 (3 of the top 4), and 285 (3 of the top 5).

Other weight classes where the B1G is relatively weak are:

197 -- Pfarr (Minny) is #2, and Moore (Ohio State) is #5, Studebaker (Nebraska) is #7, and Cutch is #9
141 -- Ashnault (Rutgers) is top for the conference at #6, and McCrystal (Nebraska) is #9. Thorn (Minny) is #11, and Gulibon is next at #15
