NW was a very disciplined defensive team. They kept everything in front of them and rarely if ever missed tackles.
Many times our WO or RB would catch the ball and instead of getting up the field for an extra 3 or 4 yards would retreat looking for the big gain only be cut down for a loss.
I spent a few years around Paterno coached teams and two things that still ring in my ears is run north and south or get up the field and throw the ball out of bounds, two things this team has not yet mastered.
Remember this NW is a team that kicked Standfords ass earlier in the season when rested and fresh much like they were today and Standford is a pretty damn good team.
No excuses but our defense looks tired with out LB out of position most of day. IMO no way NW has the success they had today if we weren't. Also grass looked like it was a high school field did they pull they old grow the grass to equalize the speed.
I'm as disappointed in this lose as anyone and I do believe JF plays sometimes to not lose versus to win but in all honestly so did Joe.
Let's give this staff 2 more years with everything they are facing that's reasonable. Keep in mind many people said it would be 10 years or more before we became relative again.
