Good evening everyone,
Going to be a little bit of an abbreviated news and notes section tonight for a couple of reasons, the first being my attendance at the Penn State men's basketball game currently taking place at the Bryce Jordan Center, the second being a virtual absence of questions posed to James Franklin following practice about football.
As you can imagine, with senior day at Beaver Stadium on tap Saturday against Nebraska, many if not all of the questions tonight were in regards to DaeSean Hamilton, Grant Haley and others among the senior class that will be playing their final home games this weekend.
While I intend to bludgeon you all with an avalanche of feel-good stories about perseverance and sticking with the Penn State football program when others wouldn't, we're going to hold off on that for tomorrow, Friday and Saturday.
In the meantime, let's hit up some of the basic news and notes observations tonight.
1) Ryan Bates, Ryan Bucholz, both in attendance and in uniform.
Neither was in action at any point for the final minutes of practice that we watched, but they're standing on their own without the aid of crutches, at the absolute least. What that means for Saturday's game, we'll see.
2) With that in mind, offensive line first team was the same as usual.
Will Fries, Steven Gonzalez, Connor McGovern, Brendan Mahon and Chasz Wright, left to right. Andrew Nelson also suited up again for this practice. Also saw Zach Simpson take at least one rep with this group at center.
3) On the defensive side of the ball, no Manny Bowen in attendance, that I saw. Franklin wasn't asked tonight and offered no further comment to what he said yesterday when he acknowledged that Bowen is not available, "right now."
End result on the defensive line without Buchholz practicing was the same deal as last week with Kevin Givens at end.
4) I have no reason to read anything into this, but think it's worth passing along, I did not see Saquon Barkley at tonight's practice. There is every possibility that he had to bail at the end of practice for some reason, as these things do occasionally happen with academic responsibilities.
*****
I have video from Franklin that is uploading to YouTube now, and I will post it here in the thread once it's finished. Pictures probably tomorrow.
If you have any questions or something I should have addressed that I missed, please don't hesitate to ask.
