Interesting Dwayne Haskins story

A team known for its poor OL drafting a QB who is less mobile than the old guy he'd be replacing?

Seems a predictable Giants move

What’s his wonderlic compared to the other guys expected to go in R1 and R2? Love the kids from Duke and Missouri and can probably get them in R2. Haskins has bust written all over him. Still don’t don’t get why Murray is so high up the list as I don’t see him as anything other than a Randle El type of guy....

Interesting parts of the story (besides the whole black Marv Marinovich vibe from daddy Haskins):

The shady bankruptcy filing before enrolling in an expensive out of state private school

Wealthy Buckeye alum in the mix

Murray can run one type of offense, and he can do it in Big 12 where....they don't play defense. Even the worst NFL teams will pose a challenge because....well, they actually play defense. One good hit and that kid could be out for a while.

Honestly, I don’t know a thing about private schools. Who do they give scholarships to? The normal types - athletes, high academic achievers with poor parents, etc? Like college - only younger?

The only people I knew who went to private school were rich kids

Essentially yes. Many also have diversity initiatives and many of the recipients of such scholarships happen to be stud athletes.

Basically they give money to who ever they want to. It may be based on need or it may be based on how bad they need the kid!! Athletically aca

I don’t see it with Haskins. I’m not a professional scout, but I never saw anything with him that blew me away and warranted the hype.
Just a mediocre nobody with 70% completion rate, 50 touchdowns & 8 interceptions. As a freshman came into Michigan game after Barrett was injured with OSU trailing and threw a 20 yard bullet on 3rd and 13. Was only 6 of 7 in that game. Nothing at all stands out about his ability.

Great college stats. Not sure they will convey to the pros.

Teams near the top of the second round are motivated to move up to the bottom of round 1 to draft a QB. They get the 5th year option in that round. A team like the Giants would be silly not to hit up the Pats or some other team like the Seahawks (who love to trade down and now have the Chiefs pick) to get that 5th year option for a QB.

So on that note alone, don't expect to see a guy like Jones from Duke slip to the second. If you like him enough to take him there, you should want to get the flexibility of the 5th year option.

College stats aint squat in the League. He's a pudgy, slow QB that can't handle the pressure. He's the next Jamarcus Russell 2.0

Shawn Springs very good db (3rd pick in NFL draft) disagrees with you [prior to 2018 season]: "It’s not going be shocking if he wins the Heisman this year or becomes the No. 1 overall (NFL draft) pick. ...
“College concepts, he can get that in his sleep,” Springs said. “You can talk to Dwayne like he’s a pro.

“It was like this kid was born to play quarterback. This kid just soaks it up. If you told him something, he would listen. And he’s smart and he works and works and works.”

The odds are very high that he will not become a Jamarcus. He works hard and has a high football IQ.

If NYG draft him, I hope he's successful for Saquon's sake.

In an offense that relied on the short passing game and gave him great protection. He's an absolute statue who struggles under pressure. But some team will be stupid and trade up for him **cough**Redskins**cough**

No, when I watch him nothing stands out about him being an NFL quarterback. Never said he was a mediocre nobody. He performed well in Urban’s system.
Nice to see you have unblocked me.

I take back my opinion. You’ve found a good neutral source to defend your position.
Where did Shawn Springs go to college?

I never said he was neutral. He is simply a very good pro/OSU DB who made a prediction before Haskins ever started a game and his prediction was mostly right.

Has nothing to do with his NFL future, which is the topic of this discussion.

In the part of the article I linked but did not quote, he discussed Haskins pro future in very positive (in my mind too positive) terms.

I have never blocked you. On occasion, I have simply decided not to respond.

We’ll see what happens with him. I’m not expecting much.

Here is a link to Haskins in 2017. Of course, he was better in 2018. Watch the first 2:05 and all of the bullets he threw. Also, see the pass he threw in the Michigan game at 10:30. Listen to the comments of the analysts. He has a great arm and has made any number of great throws. [h]ttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_skFk-9WoXk

Urban Meyer was on Cowherd a couple of days ago and said that Haskins was exceptionally good at reading coverages and by flipping the protections, he made the offensive line look good. Know I won't change your mind, but I am just putting my 2 cents in.

Time will tell. My expectations for him are very low, so there is a decent chance he will top them.

How many of those 50 were 1" forward pitches?

I haven't been following the draft prep that closely to know much about the other QB prospects, but Haskins has the size and the arm strength to make NFL coaches forget about the lack of athleticism. No doubt he will have to develop better skills at reading defenses and making quicker decisions, but considering he only has one year under his belt as a starter in his redshirt sophomore year, I think it's likely he hasn't hit his ceiling yet.

I also agree that he is a star in this draft class because there's no real standout QB prospects, but I think that is probably why he declared early for this year instead of putting in one more year at the college level. As opposed to several of the top QBs in the last couple of drafts, I definitely think Haskins would benefit from going to a team where he won't be pushed into starting in his rookie season.
