The CBS / National College Basketball analyst posted this today on Twitter in regards to Micah Shrewsberry.

"Source: Penn State is prepared to make a significant, long-term financial commitment to Micah Shrewsberry as soon as the Nittany Lions conclude their season. Shrewsberry has been linked to other high profile jobs."

I hope we can lock him in. I don’t know if any better coaches could be recruited.

I think we will. It's not a good look to change coaching jobs after 2 years anyway. Especially with your own kid on the way in to the program. More money for him and assistants will probably do it for now. PSU has historically made this the position the lowest paid coach in the B1G. Why they can't just pay the going rate for B1G basketball coaches is beyond me. We may have never spent 20 years muddling through the basement if they had just done that.

Hardly a scoop. Kraft has been telling everybody this.

It's more than about just salary. It's PSU's overall level of support for BB, including NIL. And it's about the arena which is a commercial venture not run for the benefit of PSU basketball. Those are not easy things for Kraft to solve with a checkbook.

that arena is almost 30 years old

everybody hates it, but it's no longer something we have to just live with

psu should start working on a plan for moving the sports teams back to Rec Hall on West Campus

if they can spend money on stupid things like the brick plaza, they can at least look at planning for this

It costs more in money and time to replace a good coach than simply pay them the extra money. It never appears that way on the ask but typically works that way over the next 3-5 years.
Name a program that seamlessly replaced an up and coming coach that left for greener pastures successfully and immediately.
Now name a program that floundered for years after a good coach leaving and couldn't get it right.

some of us are well aware

Bruce Parkhill was a good coach. They had to let him go in 1995 because of, well, reasons.

the replacements were not good, at most only one of them even belonged at the P5 level (and that is highly debatable). It took until 2021 to hire a good coach again. so they spent tens of millions of dollars and 25 years wasting everyone's time. paying micah an extra 1-2 million is how you avoid going back down that road. many of us could be dead and gone before they find another good coach again

I hope so but I found it interesting that both Kraft and Neeli were in Tulsa Saturday night for the wrestling championships and not have one of them (Kraft) in Des Moines for BB. Great optics for Wrestling though.

don't know if that was the right move. it would have been easy enough to split up and have one go to each event. only because there are these rumors that Micah is in demand elsewhere, showing support from that level could be important.

How wrestling need "great optics"? It's not competitive. Any time we don't win the team title you have to consider it a massive failure. Thankfully that basically never happens.
