Iowa and Flo ignore NLWC event

It is amazing that an event which includes a number of senior team members and premier match ups generate no discussion on the Iowa board or from Flo. Especially at a time where we are all dying from some live action. Any one who truly wants the best for the sport of wrestling can see how this event is good for the sport. One can only assume HR ignores from a envy perspective and Flo from a competitive perspective. Neither view will make the event not happen.

I get FLO’s perspective. Promoting an event on a competing platform isn’t good business.

It’s hard to find time to discuss a major wrestling event on a wrestling board when you are solving world issues and commenting on recruits who will never step foot on Iowa’s campus.
Love,
HR:cool:

It's pretty obvious Flo has a "thing" about PSU in addition to the commercial aspect. HR is a lost world.
Not quite as obvious but very possible IMO: PSU has a “thing” for Flo (see: the “bombshell” report around RTC finances and the not so subtle hints of “bending the rules“ that followed)

Also--Flo leaked that that Teasdale would compete at the Southern Scuffle and also reported on Gavin not making weight (when Gavin was still with PSU) --I had heard the Cael was not real happy about that.

From where I stand, Flo's entire business model rests on an assumption of a relative monopoly on content. That's why they're so aggressive about copyright on youtube, it's most likely why they are suing Rokfin and Willie. So the whole concept is problematic, and the symptoms of that issue surface wherever you look. I don't blame their paid personalities for this--they're doing a job that they are paid to do. Mainstream big time sports is an entirely different animal--no, ESPN would not be able to get away with ignoring all NFL games but Monday night. But ESPN would only appear to be an analogous company if you look at the thinnest of surfaces.

Don't really care what they aren't talking about on HR--though if they aren't even acknowledging it, that seems a bit weird given the action vacuum we're all in.

Amen to that. It would be like ESPN not covering an event that was on one of the networks or one of the networks not covering an event because it was on ESPN. Just really petty and VERY bad for business.

It's not quite the same. Something like the NFL for example, even if the games aren't on ESPN the network has a literal vested financial interest because it does have some games. Same thing with Fox and CBS, which split the conferences. They still have a stake in other games that aren't on their network. This does not preclude Flo from discussing anything, just that the comparison isn't ideal.

Cael asking "who wants to broadcast the NLWC matches???

It’s impossible to have a decent wrestling conversation on HR right now. I and many others have basically stopped trying as it isn’t worth it so I strongly doubt the lack of conversation is because it is a NLWC event. The Brooks/Rasheed match barely garnered any discussion.

What’s the reason do you think? Covid (no new news) fatigue; infighting fatigue?

Is the Inner Circle board active at all? I always view those premium boards as boring echo chambers, but I haven’t seen that one

As an Iowa fan, but a visitor of both sites, I firmly believe that a poster will get exactly the type of interactions that they are looking for on HR. If you want to have a quality conversation about wrestling, you will. If you are looking to stir up trouble, you will get that too.

A lack of active mods has led to many umm..... disappointing threads, but still plenty of good info on HR for those that are able to resist the urge to fall into the typical online forum bs.

Our Covid-era threads are comparable to a river/creek in Arizona and Southern Utah. They start off with great energy and vigor, then slowly but steadily start meandering in various, braided channels, then finally peter out and disappear under the ground - leaving only a sand-filled, desolate wash.

Normally I agree but lately, not so much. It’s not a problem that is unique to HR in today’s climate but the bickering isn’t enjoyable so I will continue to post sparingly on the wrestling board for awhile. Either way, I’m excited for the NLWC event and will definitely sign up for Rokfin to watch (sorry Slushfund, you aren’t getting my endorsement though).

Fair enough. You'll have to let me know your feelings on Rokfin, as I am curious, but unfortunately have a budget and wouldn't be able to justify to my wife having both Flo and Rokfin subscriptions..

FWIW, HR is not very active in general at this point. There was also almost no discussion of the Sonnen event, which featured a hawkeye fan favorite. I don't think it's to spurn PSU.

For 9.99 you can join Rokfin....watch the NLWC Wrestling event and cancel after 29 days. Problem solved :)

Yeah, but then I have to make up my own mind. It's much easier to let others tell me what to do.🐑

Speaking of Slush Fund: Ira Lubert just won an auction for a new casino license, and most likely he'll put it at Nittany Mall.

Jefe - there's more to this than you realize. I'm curious who persuaded Lupert to pick a location near Penn State.

Ha!

Though in seriousness, Lubert probably didn't need much convincing. Look at the map in the article -- the only real choice is State College vs. Altoona vs. not at all.

Wow. Didn't think I'd see Flo do that. Good on them; growing wrestling overall will help them reach more fans.
I hope it turns out that Pyle took a stand and insisted that Flo cover such news. And then everyone starts liking and respecting him. And then he doesn’t grow into a sad old man.
