Iowa fans react

The Hawkeye fans are upset with Franklin for icing the Georgia State kicker.

I think there are many Iowa fans that just look for anything to be upset over with regard to Penn State. You see this on their wrestling and football boards often.

If they want to be all offended because PSU won 56-0 instead of 56-3 then fine....whatever.

People are way too politically correct now. When Spurrier was at Florida he'd say things like you can't spell Citrus (Bowl) without UT (Tennessee), Free shoes university for FSU, etc. People would laugh at the joke and keep things 'fun'. Now they can't wait to be offended by something.

Funny, I watched the game after the fact on DVR. As the last drive unfolds I'm thinking "it would be real d--k move if Georgia State tries a field goal here." On cue, we stop them and they send out the kicker. If it's the first half I can see it, but not at the point. It's like calling TO with a few seconds left when you are losing big just to be petulant. I had no problem with Franklin calling TO there.

The fans that look for anything to be upset about are right here.

I have never seen a fanbase with such an inferiority complex as Iowa. They are inferior, but man they have such a complex about it.

The latter of your post describes D'Antonio every time he has played PSU winning or losing.

Its all they have in Iowa, no pro teams.

That is exactly correct. Took all 3 timeouts when he was down by about 4 tds with a minute left. My disdain for him started back then, in his first or second year. Ga state should have gone for a td, what's the point of a field goal?

Spurrier is participating in som ESPNU radio shows this fall and is full of great stories. He was asked about the Florida Tennessee game last week and his relationship with Peyton Manning. Steve brought up the fact that he told reporters that Manning came back for his senior season so he could be a three time Citrus bowl MVP... it was hillarious!

I never understood why he did that. Did he think he was upsetting me? I wasn't ready to go home yet. It was a nice win for us on Senior day. Although it was pretty cold that night, it got the stadium really jacked up. It just extended the sweet taste of victory.

I don't seethe problem in going for the FG or why Franklin was calling time out.
So I haven't kept up with it but maybe Franklin was surprised that they were going for a FG and Penn State didn't have the correct personnel package in the game so he needed to call the TO? Or was it just to ice the kid?

Sorry, I just saw the thread about this and CJF's explanation was pretty much what I was thinking. Why is that explanation unacceptable to those criticizing him?

Screw them all - if anyone should be upset about anything it is PSU Fans and the Team - we didn't pass the "eye test" last year so lets make sure we win every game by as much as possible. If other teams don't like it stop us and kicking a field goal down 50+ points is bush league. Even the sPitters tried to score a touchdown at the end but I guess if it was a shut out tool back nardouche would have sent out the field goal team as well.

Good. I'm sure those same people will be crying after the game over something on Saturday night, too. Franklin is too mean for those snowflakes on HR.
They thought the football field with .11 left was a "safe zone?"

People act like Franklin called the time out after their kicker made the FG...he had no idea if the FG was going to be good or not when he called the TO. What if he would have missed the first attempt and made the second, would these morons still be trashing Franklin? The kicker had every chance in the world to make the FG after the TO and missed it...that's not on Franklin.

Well, went home for lunch and caught the PSU Press Conference....Franklin addressed it right off the bat without waiting for questions. He said the same thing as he said after the game - needed to get the right personnel in there.

And last season Nebraska fans were all pissed that Iowa threw a pass in the 4th quarter of the game despite being up by almost 30 at the time.

What's your point?

College fans are college fans.

As for the icing of the kicker, as an Iowa fan, I have zero problem with it. But Mike Francesa on WFAN seems to and he has a lot louder voice than little ol' me or any Iowa football fan does.

Sure, it was great to celebrate the clinching of the Rose Bowl, but I was cold enough by that time. It just made zero sense.

Hmmmm........perhaps if PSU is up late in the fourth quarter with a large lead they should kick a field goal. Just thinking out loud. :p:p:p

Are we talking about the same Iowa program that provides its opponents with spartan locker room facilities decked out in homophobic pink in an attempt to "ice" their spirits? Gotta love Michigan's answer to this (see video below)...

In reality, he might have done that kid a favor. In a game that counts and they have a shot, he now won't be surprised when someone calls a timeout. As for Iowa fans, maybe this is their way of ignoring their "impressive" win over North Texas.
