Iowa & HB news - 2025-26

Kueter having hip surgery and will miss the football season. He's expected to be back for wrestling.

He was apparently wrestling with a pretty serious injury this year. Tough kid.
I read something posted about this style of injury and I hope for his sake it's not entirely true.
I read the recovery for this can be fairly long if what I read is true he's going to be very lucky to be 100% any time next season.
Sounds like his hip doesn't keep him from wrestling but it hurts like a bitch..

8 months maximum to 100% is what it's looking like. 6-7 is probably more likely Oct-Nov

20 year old bodies are amazing and freaking heal slicker than coyotes who fall off cliffs chasing road runners, but there is going to be serious loss of power and explosiveness that can only be regained through effort and time. 8 months and elite athletic prowess is a stretch, even for an otherwise healthy and very athletic young man.

God speed to him.

As one Hawkeye said excuses are for what?

Honestly, it's consistent with my position about DT taking the Cowboys job - a bigger threat to Iowa than PSU.
I find it funny that when people like me told them Iowa should ditch the Brands brothers and bring in DT, the majority of them laughed hysterically at us and said "but...but...he has no experience".

I'm gonna enjoy watching David Taylor be Tom Brands's daddy...

For now. DT has the best chance to actually "level the playing field" with PSU because he understands what makes a program great in a way that absolutely no one at Iowa does. Levelling the playing field is nowhere even close to Slumlord Millionaire's idea of getting the ability to throw the biggest bags of cash at mercenaries.

For now, though, OK St and DT are still years behind PSU. Iowa will be a mere speed bump on their way to his true vision.

Iowa fans will be laughing at us. Do they realize this is at least as bad for them?
Right, go to their board and they thinks it’s great what happened but what they don’t seem to realize DT is actually putting together a team that is passing them immediately, they are also convinced that suddenly Peterson, Bailey and Williams are all title contenders next year

Yep. I feel pretty much the same way. Was super excited to see Zach compete for PSU…loved his personality. Bummed to see him go.

Originally thought that he would beat Rocco in a wrestle-off, but upon further reflection, I remember Rocco handing Josh Barr a couple of losses in those high school super matches. That, coupled with the fact that Zach barely beat Gabe Arnold when they wrestled last summer, gives one pause.

If Arnold was smart, he'd be in the portal.

It’s that time of the year when all their guys are title contenders 💁

Why?

He's doing exactly what many in the transfer thread said Ryder should have done. Stay and battle for a spot in the lineup.
Maybe his NIL deal is multi-year with a no unilateral portal clause. I mean, if Dean's has performance incentives, I don't see why not.

If I were cutting the big checks and that kind of clause was "legal" then a no unilateral portal clause would be one of my a standard Ts&Cs for big-time recruits.

I agree with your point about Ryder but I don't agree with that sentiment by many on here.

I see Arnold as a somewhat different situation. Instead of letting Arnold get more experience at 184, TnT swapped him out for the heir apparent against most of the toughest competition. It's obvious that Angelo will be the starter at 184 next season.

Not only did TnT do Arnold dirty not letting him compete, now Arnold has to cut back down to compete with the returning 4th place finisher at 174. Rutger should be throwing him some $$$ to take the cruise liner to Jerzy.

Somehow the story line of Ono has gone instantly from the best pound for pound wrestler in the world, to being ridden for multiple minutes by Ayala and Crookham, and being unable to take down Byrd.

Incredible. How did that happen so fast? Stefan Micic did a ten minute soliloquy on how impossible it is for foreign guys to learn folk STYLE and now the obvious plan is for everyone to simply wrestle on the edges against Ono and obviously just ride him for multiple minutes.

Nevermind he is the world champion and beat Spencer, the kid who Spencer pins regularly in under a minute will handle this with no swrat 😆

Was Micic projecting? I mean he never won at NCAA's despite winning at Freestyle in 2023 and he wrestles for Serbia.

I mentioned before that Micic is perfectly qualified to explain the difference in competing in both styles. But Dake has also been in the room with Ono and said Ono is very good and won’t have a problem. Dake has no dog in the fight. I’m just excited to see how it all unfolds against top competition.

Serious question for anybody, but especially the Iowa lurkers (several suggested I not post there). What methods, techniques, networks, and technologies do those Iowa insiders employ that they know the inner workings of every single other significant program, right down to every athlete interaction, funders of NIL, etc? Do they use some high tech surveillance equipment? Do they drug every athlete in the top 200 of college wrestling and get downloads of every program’s interaction right down to the structuring of every deal offer? What’s the scoop? How do they know absolutely EVERYTHING?

They all share a neurolink that is hot spotted into Ironbirds brain.. It's run with Coax cabling with splitters so it even gets more distorted than normal..
