This isn’t anything insider, but I wanted to relay what I heard while driving around yesterday.
1) Kinnick isn’t sold out tonight. Apparently thousands of unsold seats, apparently at 95 dollars for face. They were talking about Iowa struggling of late to fill that stadium, and that it’s not getting any better. It will look full tonight, but that’s an interesting thing.
2) All of the sports talk out here thinks Penn State is the toughest team Iowa will play this season, and this is thee marquee game at home. The interesting point being, Iowa is also hosting Ohio State this year. I spent some time with some big Hawkeyes fans, and they think this might be a blood bath for Penn State.
3) Building on that, the one kid, who apparently lives and breathes Iowa football, said the result of that ‘12 game that Penn State dominated as being the start of a trend in which Iowa has gotten beaten badly. His version is that Iowa used to play everyone fairly close, even in a loss, but the last few years have really seen some floodgate games, even at Kinnick.
4) They love Barkley. I mean, who wouldn’t? But, just on what I’ve heard since I got out here, they think he’s awesome. I would tend to agree.
