He's a 9th grader from the same school scheduled to participate at Super32. Joe L is going as well, don't see Nick.

PSU has put themselves in a position where legacy recruits are less important imo. These younger brothers will be welcome if they are top 15 types, but less than that probably means they don't wrestle as a starter in your lineup anyway. Good problem to have, but most top kids Cael wants he seems to get anyway ( not all but most).

We should all be licking our chops for when the Sanderson and Cunningham boys hit college age and can go to PSU for free (I think they can, right?) without affecting scholly money. I'd be willing to bet there are at least one or two high-quality wrestlers lurking there.

And there's a gaggle of them.

I believe they get 75% off of tuition. It used to be free, but that was a while ago.

There's also ome guy named Ed Ruth we ought to keep an eye on. Not national level yet, but it wouldn't be right to see him at some other BIG school.

141 for PSU will be interesting in 17/18.

Nick Lee may have the highest ceiling, but both Kade Moss & Gary Dinmore have pedigree and will have been in the program three or so seasons.

Could see Cael giving all three a shot at several duals and having the Scuffle settle the starter.

In that scenario, if Lee doesn't win the job at the Scuffle, then he's blown his shirt over maybe 3 duals in Nov-Dec. He's clearly being groomed to succeed Zain for the following 3 years.

Forget my post -- I didn't have the roster in front of me and got 141 a little mixed up with 149.

Not exactly sure how the two weights work out.

Big fan of Kade Moss. He's beaten some quality opponents. More than capable of manning 141.

I'd like to see Lee redshirt next year, but if he's training at the NLWC now, maybe the plan is to wrestle 141 as a true freshmen. I'd still like to see him redshirt. Think Moss or Dinmore can do a good job.

How soon we forget. He was the hole in the lineup for a whole year. He has beaten some quality opponents but never sniffed AA. And never will.
Did you think James English would reach the podium after his freshman year?

You were reading my mind. I was thinking of James English, also. You know there will a "next James English" wearing blue and white one day. Why not Cade Moss?

Moss has had Greco success and a few nice wins - as freshman I believe. He did fall apart at B1Gs that year to miss qualifying, but he was young.

It wouldn't be interesting to watch him next year as a senior. I'm sure he's improved & developed in that room.

I get it that you have an edginess and are provocative with your posts Fine, but this one is cringe-worthy. Every guy in the room deserve a fans respect. I guess because I know these guys better than most, and what they go through to be a student-athlete...my view is when any one of our guys has success, he's got bits and pieces of every other wrestler in the room that helped him with that success.

So very true. I spent 3 years mostly riding the pine in D1 wrestling, and when I did get to compete in the lineup the 5 total times I went 1-4. It is very hard to stick with wrestling as an important backup or spot starter when fans don't offer support. Moss is twice the talent I ever thought of being and certainly has my respect. There is something very satisfying to me personally when one of these guys gets a season to be " the man" in his weight class, and even sweeter when it is on a top team. James English was a great story. Iowa had the strongest man in the world win a national title one year coming from a backup role from a small 1a school. It is part of what makes our sport the best sport. I'm thinking if Cael ends up using one of these veteran backups as a starter it will be with the expectation that he can be an AA, and contribute to a team title.

Geno Borelli was not James English. Kade Moss is not James English. James English was James English. It's annoying. Stop. Feel like we will have another decade of this.

Every time y'all talk about someone being the next James English, I'm gonna mention Nevills being the next Andrew Alton.

In related news, the nationwide clown sightings have reached the board.

There is no one on the team I don't respect and admire. But this is a fan comment board, it is not the wrestling team's parent association. What's the over/under on Moss's points at nationals? Zero is reasonable. That's reality and doesn't make Kade a lesser person, but in the lofty world of Penn State wrestling we could and should do better. The totals at nationals, as we've seen, can get really close and we need every point.

How do you know that's what it will be in 2018?

The fact that you declare him as unlikely to score at nationals if the starter next year belies your claim to respect him.

All appearances seem to suggest that Nick Lee intends to take the 141 spot as a true freshman....if he can.
So if Moss or anyone else takes it, it will be because they beat Lee out.

Kade Moss' over under at zero??? I'd go with the over. As a Freshman he started and even though he had a record barely over .500, Moss had several matches against tough competition that were very close. Last year he did not start for PSU, but I saw him wrestle at the Southern Scuffle. There he outpointed Gulibon winning his first three matches before losing to Heil 8-5. Then in the consolations, he beat Gasca (currently ranked #16) before losing to DeAngelo 9-6. He won't start this year (unless there's an injury) and I've got to believe he has improved working in the room over the years. If he had to start next year (2017), I suspect he would do well. I'm not saying he'd dominate, but he'd score at nationals. Think of how Conway improved over his time at PSU. Why wouldn't Moss?

Has that ever happened before that we had 3 guys vying for a weight and let the Scuffle decide it? ;)

I do, and he's no Conaway. He couldn't beat the weakest guy in the lineup last year. And that guy DNP at nationals. I'd love to see him AA, I like that we have a competent backup, but what sign, at all, do you see that would say AA is happening?

Goalposts, moved.

This is oversimplifying, and FM's posts may or may not fit this. But some people are optimists and some are pessimists. Optimists don't only see what's there, but imagine what can be. Pessimists see what's there too, but don't believe it's going to get any better (the proverbial glass half-empty vs half-full). No one knows how Moss will evolve. It's impossible to predict from his 2014-15 season, and some bouts in 2015-16, what he'll be like in 2017-18. I've seem some encouraging wins--Gasca, Prince (Navy), Sabatello and see room for growth. Do I know he would AA if he's our man in 2017-18? Of course not. Could he. . .why not? I'm sure pulling for him one way or another. After all, he's a Nittany Lion!
