Is Michigan a good matchup or no?

Michigan isn’t very good this year. They will get exposed badly by someone this year, and it might as well be us while public perception of them is high.

We don’t need to be “flawless” at all. Penn State just needs its 6th year qb to not make a game-changing mistake. Odds on that are about 50-50.

Even if they aren't very good, which I agree they haven't been very impressive, they're going to probably win at least 10 games

Michigan has 15 sacks against lousy competition. If you look even deeper, their D Linemen are responsible for THREE of those 15 sacks. The rest are DBs/LBs. If Clifford is on his game, we don’t lose the turnover battle and the Referines are not a factor, we win.
Actually, with their 7 sacks today, Michigan has 22 on the season. Not sure where you are getting your Dlineman sack numbers..Mike Morris, who is a 6'6", 300 pounder on the edge has 4 on the season and 7 tfls.. Michigan's front is very good...also Mazi Smith is a tough guy inside. PSU will have a big challenge up front and will have to play B1G style football at the LOS. Half of PSU's sacks are from the back 7. Separately, I'm not totally sold on Michigan's OL either...but their defense is pretty salty up front.

Are we all forgetting that UM and OSU are both undefeated midway thru the season? The end-of-season BIG10 wet dream game shall not be interfered with, especially by that pesky “east coast” intruder.

Look for a few well-placed phantom holding calls in critical situations.

In my pre-game fantasies, MY and CJF have been scheming all summer and hiding formations for UM game specifically. There is no tape that Jimmy has seen to prepare for this. Manny will bring heat from every direction. We jump all over them..as I said pre-game fantasy until we get punched in mouth

We should just forfeit. I'm not even sure why we play games.

Our O line matches well with their DL?

I hope so, but definitely worried about it
Yeah, the line play will be critical. Looking for a lot of quick passes and screens to negate the pass rush. And a few counters in the run game to slow their pursuit. Sure hope we break some long runs. Going to be an interesting chess match.

I watched Michigan’s DL last week. They made some plays, but we’re not overly impressive. Our OL is still a work in progress, but has been trending up slowly and consistently all year. They don’t have to be great. If they’re average to above average, the backs and WR’s are talented enough to do the rest.

Lol @ not overly impressed. Michigan recorded 7 sacks yesterday

Given both teams strength against the run and strong overall defenses (both are very highly rated pass defenses - scUM is #6 and PSU #7 in FBS in Passing Defense Efficiency), this game looks to be a low-scoring, very tight affair.

The game being @scUM and the Referines are huge intangibles in scUM's favor.

Pretty simple Michigan’s defense line will smoke Psu offensive line won’t be close 27 -10

Yeah, Most of them in the last 10-15 minutes of the game when they could “tee it up”….. & when the overmatched Hoosiers were worn out physically and mentally. That overmatched line played them pretty well for 2-3 quarters…. Michigan was less than impressive for that significant time period—There will not be such a mismatch/disparity in talent this week. The athletes will be well matched

Michigan O line dominated Iowa D line. Iowa was thought to have the best defense in college football at the time

Seriously? I'd love to see the article, if you can produce one not written by a Hawkeye fan, that said Iowa was believed to have the best defense in college football this year.

Michigan scored 27 on the Hawkeyes. Do you think the Hoosiers have the second best defense now? They did hold Michigan to 31.

Statistically Iowa was at the time. Easy to find

It's probably going to be tight 21-20/17-14 type game that comes down to which QB makes the plays they need to be. 6th year starter vs a guy making his 6th starter should be in our favor...but we shall see. The young backs can't put the ball on the ground either.

Nice change of course.

Statistically, they still are...

36th 3rd down conversion defense
32nd first downs defense
5th pass yards allowed
27th rushing defense
3rd scoring defense
9th total defense
39th turnovers gained

Do they have a good defense? Yes.

Are the stats skewed (particularly coming into the Michigan game) because they have such a putrid offense? Absolutely.

I think Michigan could have scored 40 on them if they had to, but once they scored 20, they played risk averse. Harbaugh likely would have had to throw more and that's where their cover 2 can get you.

Iowa's defense is so awesome they single handedly won the game against Iowa State and Illinois and Michigan.....Wait what?
The 4 point blowout of South Dakota State really showed me they one of the top teams in the country, not to be taken lightly. I mean, they can hold any anemic offense to under 10 points. I use there 3-3 record as the standard to judge all other teams in the country.

Nice post. In the style of wolve and old ted. Well done.👐

Yeah but it's a Wisconsin team that is playing for the coach they want to keep long term. We sleepwalked through most of that game and the outcome was never truly in doubt. I don't see any concern from that game.
Agree, and sleepwalking through a game with a clearly lesser opponent is not at all a surprise to anyone who has been watching college football for more than one season,.

Michigan lost their two great DEs from last season, so their pass rush is no where near as good as last year. The whole team is overrated and McCarthy is unimpressive. I like our chances.
JJ McCarthy is ranked 5th in passing efficiency and they're tied for 4th in the nation in team sacks. Michigan has some weaknesses, but their QB play and pass rush are pretty good this year.

Iowa has the 131st rated offense. Meaning it is dead last. Behind such powerhouses as Colorado, UMass, & FIU.

That they have won ANY games proves that their defense is legit. Maybe not as good as Georgia, but pretty damned stout.
