Actually, I was a staff officer. Served 8 years as a Navy physician. Full disclosure: I received my bachelors degree from Penn State ("My Team", season football ticket holder) but I received my M.D. from Pittsburgh School of Medicine. The Navy paid for my entire medical school education.

The University of Pittsburgh is an outstanding school in general, and the Med School is the equal of any in America. It's not the University that I got problems with.

No 'just' involved with it. Equivalent to making Petty Officer First Class in the Navy. A worthy accomplishment. The Senior Enlisted are the backbone of the Service. Without my Chiefs and First Class running the division and showing me the ropes, I would have gotten killed.
