It's very important for PSU to start 6-0 this year

Buffalo
Rutgers
SDSU
Army
Indiana

All in the state of Pennsylvania against weaker opponents. Then....

At Ohio State
At Maryland
Illinois
At Northwestern
Michigan
At Michigan State

PSU lost to every one of these teams last year and 4 out of the 6 games are on the road

SDSU is an absolute trap game. They are a good team with talent and return a ton of players. PSU should win at home, but that game is not going to be an easy one. They return 9 or so on D from a top 20 Defense IIRC.

There are a lot of interesting games starting with Temple. I look at the Temple game much like I looked at the UCF game last year. It's one of those games we should win but it could be close. A loss would be devastating because things get more difficult down the road.

Maryland beat us but they also have a new QB. I'd feel better about that game if it was at the Beav but MD will be fired up at home.

Michigan had the #7 recruiting class in 2012 and the #5 recruiting class in 2013. Those kids are just now stepping into starting roles. Nobody should think they'll be an easy opponent. They have a new QB but he should be well established by November 21st.

We have the defense and skilled people on offense to improve our record this year and to beat the teams we have equal to or better talent than. However, to beat a dead horse, it all comes down to the OLine.

Penn State will be favored in 10 of those games.

Maryland game is in Baltimore. I expect it to be a neutral crowd at worst

I am going to disagree that we "need" to go 6-0.

I think we need to go 5-1. Frankly, we could possibly slip up in this opener, and still regroup and find ourselves to go 5-1.

I see 8-4 as a good season, but not a great season. I see 7-5 as the most likely, and somewhat disappointing finish, and I see 9-3, as the best possible scenario.

Let's say we go 5-1....

After Ohio State, sorry but there is NO WAY this group of guys lose to Maryland, not after last year. Illinois, that's a win, we remember last year.

NW is then a toss up, Michigan at home is a toss up, and who knows about the last one vs Sparty.

I'm saying that from week to week, we won't be sure this year. I want 8-4...ANYTHING over that and I am jumping for absolute joy as if we won the national championship.

We should be favored in 3 or 4 of the last 6. I think it's too early to say we'll be favored against Michigan. We should know more after they play @ Maryland, Northwestern, and Michigan State in October.
