Gained some great insight into the UNL downfall.. when the BIG 12 modernized the presidents put in a roll limiting non-qualifiers.. this was mainly driven by Texas. That single tweak destroyed Nebraska, at that point Nebraska operated like JC, not like a 4-year school. Now, UNL guys will bring up their historic number of Academic AA's.. but 1) it's Nebraska, not Harvard 2) it was the other part of the team that was stupid. The academic success of the actual students was essiantly a beard for a bunch of thugs like Lawrence Philips.
The other dirty secret.. UNL would roll in smart farm-boys on academic grants.. and these guys just would happen to play football. They were compensating their walk-on's adding secret scholarships. If you ever watched Nebraskay you would hear the announcer drone on about how great their "walk-on" program was.
One interesting point from the UNL perspective.. as they were again getting crucified on TV this week, they had an interesting reply to Wisky and Iowa guys who were trash-talking them.. and I agree. Nebraska is trying to score and be dynamic on O.. if they fail this puts their D right back on the field. Iowa/Wisconsin don't even try to be dynamic, that way when they are overmatched they lose 35-10 instead of 55-10... basically saying that if Iowa/Wisconsin tried to operate at PSU/OSU/UM level they would look a lot worse.. this really limits their upside.. should they win the BIG the would simply get punched in a playoff or NY6 bowl because they just don't have the athletes.
