J’den Cox Olympic watch

I heard USA wrestling will announce today what weight he is going, especially since he is competing in a tournament this week/end in Cuba

He should fully commit to the bit and wrestle 92 for this tournament.

Surprises me, but maybe the cut was too much or maybe he really does want to test himself against Sadulaev .... assuming he can get past Snyder

Does not sound like it was a weight issue, at least according to what Cox says in the video. He framed this as a journey to challenge himself & reach what he believes is his full potential. Not matter what happens, someone who is a multiple time world medalists will be watching the Olympics.

WOW wow wow. It was all but booked 86 as of about 6 months ago. Had already begun the descent.

I'm glad he framed it in terms of a challenge to go up. Someone should ask him nevertheless if he made a test cut to see what it might be like to go down. It's an 11 pound increase from 92 KG to 97 KG. Alternatively, it's a 13 pound drop to 86 KG. That's quite a bit for a muscular and lean guy no doubt.

On some level I bet Cox also feels beating Snyder/Sadulaev, if he can accomplish that, is more impressive than beating DT, just because Snyder is a past Olympic gold medalist. These guys all have tremendous egos (they wouldn't be who they are and get to where they are without them) and his inner voice may have led him in this direction to some degree.
Also, as mentioned, the guy isn't exactly walking around pudgy, so cutting to 86 would seem to be harder than going up to 97.
My $0.02

Cox pretty much said as much in his video. So those two cents might not be all yours! ;)

J'den is a big boy! i remember talking with him at NCAA's and he is bigger than i was. He also practice with Kyle right infront of me and made Kyle look kind of small.

Is this a ranking tournament, or have ANY reward Olympic seeding wise??

Asking because who’s to say he isnt simply wrestling up and still is in 92k range?

Not to be the bearer of bad news but DT still has to go out and earn it against PD3, zahid and dieringer. This is all coming off an injury as well.
