James Franklin coaching clinic

“Coach Franklin, he immediately said yes. He will do anything not only to help out our district but all the PA state football coaches.”

I wish Coach Franklin would accept the invitation to speak at the Ohio High School Football Coaches Clinic. It is held annually the weekend following LOI day and attracted nearly 2,000 coaches this year. Every year there are 4-5 B1G coaches speaking. I think the biggest plus would be to meet up with Ohio HS coaches who have players PS is recruiting.

Maybe Urban put the kibosh on Franklin's invitation!

How do you know that Franklin did not accept an invitation? This would be surprising to me, unless there was some sort of real conflict in his schedule.

Dan,
Each year since Bill O'Brien accepted and spoke in 2013, the person who contacts the universities and coaches has told me - "we contacted Penn State, but were turned down again". This person is a friend I have known for 15+ years. This year Franklin turned them down again with one reason being he had to be in Columbus again on Saturday.
But each year Penn State is contacted.
This year would have been great to speak Friday morning in front of all the coaches, meet and get to know Ohio coaches, attend the Penn State v Ohio State wrestling match, and make his meeting on Saturday. Heck, i would have bought him a pop if he'd been there!

I trust in Franklin... He gets it, better than any other coach I can think of... the "it" being building his brand and spreading goodwill for the program with fans, players, media, etc. If he thinks his schedule isn't capable of supporting this, then that's the end of it for me.

Do you know whether other Big Ten coaches attend coaches clinics in PA? Maybe there is some sort of gentleman's agreement now where Big Ten coaches don't attend clinics in other states? It's a stretch, but I just can't believe that Franklin would blow off something like this.

Not sure if there is any clinics in PA that other B1G coaches attend. Really have no guess as to why PS would not send someone to the clinic. I'm not losing sleep over it, because like you, I am sure CJF has perfectly good reasons for not being able to accept the invite.
As for the coaches who spoke - apologies now if not interested -
Main Room
OSU Strength Coach - 5:00 Thursday
Kevin Wilson - 6:00
Pat Fitzgerald - 7:00
Tom Allen - IU's HC - 8:00
Ryan Day - OSU QB Coach 9:00 (good speaker/good info for me}

Main Room
Urban Meyer - 8:00 Friday morning
General John Harris, Jr - National Guard Commander - 8:30
Bill Davis OSU - LB coach - 9:00
Luke FIckell - UCincy HC - 10:00
Kirk Ferentz - Iowa HC - 11:00 (interesting IA does not use a blocking sled at all. Ferentz recognizes he doesn't get the 4 and 5 stars, so they have to work harder. Very good speaker)

At this point the speakers are split into 5 different rooms. High School state champion coaches speak along with college assistants. Some of those college position coaches include:
IA LB - Wallace; Pitt OL - Peterson; OSU CB - Coombs (very good drills I like); NW LB - Bates; UM DB - Zordich.
Several D-2 coaches finished Friday. MAC schools and NAIA coach along with Boston College and Carnegie Mellon coach.
Sorry, I got a little long.

Relative to the blocking sleds. I've seen that lately where people aren't using them. Jim McNally has some videos on YouTube at a clinic in buffalo discussing this. He was using medicine balls. They bring their hands low to high and keep the head back, trying to reduce concussions. I'll try to link for you tomorrow
