Jason Tsirtsis no longer enrolled at Northwestern

This news will make the tan people happy. Should make Micah's attempt to get into the top 4 that much easier.

I would like to see him at UNI. Schwab is a great coach/mentor. Tsirtsis would thrive there imo. Great for everyone except Northwestern..

ex-PSU star and now coach having issues convincing the direction of the program? or is there something else? Not everyone fits a system and I wonder if Matt has layed down some firm ground rules.

$68k per year is a lot of money even when everything exceeds your wildest expectations and unicorns dance around campus.

yep, had a niece graduate from there two years ago. Great academic school (aside from the actors :) ) situation where the 9.9 hurts if split up a lot...

I disagree. Wherever he ends up (sounds like UNI) will almost certainly be a better situation than he had at Northwestern. I hope a change of scenery does him well. A fully motivated physically and mentally healthy Tsirtsis could be wrestling opposite Zain on Saturday night.

At the time I posted that, I was under the assumption that he wasn't transferring, but ending his career.

UNI could have a heck of a lineup if he goes there:

125- Peters, SR
133- Alber, SO
141- Thomsen, FR (assuming he can get down)
149- Tsirtsis, SR
157- Steiert, SO
165- Moore, SR
174- Lujan, FR
184- Tyler Hoffman, SO (JUCO Champ)
197- Bartel, SR
HWT- Carter Isley, tFR

Solid.

I doubt Max can get down, but they do have Koethe who was ranked in the top 20 at one point last season until he got injured and missed the end of the season. They also have JJ Everard at 285. Former NCAA qualifier from SDSU.

Finished tied for 25th in March...should be much higher in 2017.

I hope he got a diploma from Northwestern. If he did this was a good move for his wrestling career. If not this is a mistake.

Well, Flo has what appears to be a Skype video chat interview with him on their site. He explains that he had a rough year last year and because of it ended up academic on probation and was eventually released from the team/school. That's why he is transferring out.

So no, it looks like he didn't get a degree from NW. I wish the kid luck, though. He has certainly had a very heartbreaking year in his personal life.

He may aspire to a career record of 131-16 (7,1,1,2) against what is considered the finest heavyweight field ever.

jammen... Man... Tony Nelson was a bore. He's probably a super good human. He has awesome accolades that I can never imagine attaining myself. But he was boring as all hell to watch and so is Jason Tsirtsis.
You can't tell me you go back and watch old Nelson matches all the way through, rubbing your hands together like, "Oh man, wait till it gets to triple OT ride-outs! That's where Tony makes his move!" "LOOK AT THAT STAND-UP! NELSON WINS! NELSON WINS!"

(And for the record, I lived with a D3 2x AA who made a living off riding time. I always congratulated him, but I'd also chime in with a "Hey, bud, imagine if you would've used 2min of that 3:30 RT to get a couple takedowns and not bore the $&%# out of us!? You'd be slaying women, around here!")

And lost the most important match among them.
Individually I don't think any one match during the tournaments of his 3 finals runs was any more important than the rest as a loss in any of them left him short of being a 3x champ. Teamwise though....

Not even a good try. None of David Taylor's losses cost his team a national title.
And David shot takedowns and scored bonus points and was overall entertaining and exciting to watch, being a much better ambassador for the sport.

You guys are being a little unnecessarily tough on our goofer friend. Without Tony Nelson the annual Minnesota wrestling goof-off tee shirt doesn't happen and there would be 100s of 3rd world kids without their own Minnesota Goofers 2014 NCAA Wrestling Champions tee shirts.
