Jay Paterno's Speech at the HOF ceremony last nite

He always speaks extremely well.

Unfortunately, some asshole will soon post here something negative about Jay. It never fails.

Well then I ask that anyone that wants to post shit about Jay, to just watch the video first.

In it's entirety.

Then come back and tell us how you really feel. If if it's an asshole comment, then it's an asshole commenting. Because you didn't watch the video.

Succinct and powerful..Makes me proud..

Jay is so good at public speaking. His style and use of language were clearly things he learned from Joe. I dare anyone to say anything negative about Jay after that speech. He killed it!

The Penn State Community is blessed to have Sue, Jay and the rest of the family. Everyone should take a moment and reflect how difficult it is to lose a loved one. Many of us have lost a mother, father and spouse.Unfortunately I fall into that category, having lost all three. I marvel at how they have carried that grief in the face of the indignity of the false narrative. I also can't help but wonder how some individuals who framed Joe, sleep at night. Joe was first and foremost an educator. We shall not see his like again.

Jay spoke very powerfully last night.
Good stuff:

Good stuff Wendy and I'm sure that it makes Joe very happy that Coach Franklin, by his own admission, walks in the footsteps of this great legacy and is honored to have been selected to continue the proud tradition of The Pennsylvania State University, Success With Honor.

I never understood the JayPa hate. I'm not as in tune as many of the insiders on this board so maybe there's some around the town stuff that I don't know about. The only real negative I ever heard about him was that he sent email spam to folks who criticized him but I'm not even sure if that was true. Other than that folks used to hate on him for not being a great recruiter or QB developer and point out that no other programs were interested in hiring him. Those things alone don't make one a bad person imo.

Proud of Jay...he and his family deserve to have their story told to more than just we Penn Staters. Although this was not a huge forum, it certainly was a step in the right direction.

Unfortunately, as long as there are hold-ups in the court system, Jay's message will continue to fall on deaf ears...that ray of true sunshine he spoke of will keep getting muddled with clouds until ALL parties get their voices heard on the public record. The result - EVERYONE at Penn State was guilty because louie freeh said so. IMO it's time for the commonwealth to shit or get off the the pot and allow C/S/S their due day in court so that ALL OF US can finally get on with our lives.

Jay was a good coach. Too many believe that Coaches make players and Teachers make students. They polish the jewels; only God makes them.

It's long overdue but I am glad Jay is getting the respect and praise that he was denied for so many years by those who weren't fit to be in the same league as JayPa

I cannot wait until he gets a HC job and is able to silence the critics

Thanks, Wendy. Jay was outstanding, as usual.

Penn State was the only program during Joe's last seven years to win at least 77% of its games and graduate over 80% of its players. That sums up what Joe stood for at Penn State.
But our great President said at the Maryland Tailgate that our record of graduation rates is because we recruit the "best and brightest".....wonder why that is??

Hey Baron - HONOR JOE at Beaver Stadium!

Not at all surprised by Jay's passion and eloquence. I caught him at a book signing in the DC area a year ago and his presentation was both powerful and heartfelt... extremely impressive!!!

I have often used the phrase "I blame Jay"....not because of Jay, but mostly to poke fun at those who constantly blamed him for any offensive shortcomings of the team. It got to the point where anything/everything that went wrong - PSU football or not - prompted me to make the statement.

Perhaps it's time to retire that phrase.

The people who dislike JayPa will not watch the video first before commenting. Their minds have been molded a long, long, time ago. They don't want to keep an open mind and love to continue their spin on things. They don't want to change their negative narrative of the man. It gives some people a sense of superiority to put others down. It makes them feel good about themselves when they criticize others.

It's similar to politics. Some, don't want to change their minds. These types of people are generally conservatives. Conservatives hate liberals; and nothing the left says or does will ever change their mind(s). Facts are meaningless to some of these people because if they believed the facts, they may have to change mindsets. And they don't want to change their minds. It's sad but true.

It's called "jealousy" - a very ugly trait. You can't control who your father is and I'm sure Jay feels fortunate and blessed to have been born to such a truly great man (as well as all the unique opportunities being born to a legend affords him). The "haters" essentially are jealous that Jay had such good fortune in life - really pretty disgusting basis for hating and despising someone especially given that Jay had no control over who brought him into this world and seems to be appropriately grateful for his good fortune. But you know what they say, haters are going to hate....it's what tthey do.

I watched the video. And I (being totally honest here) despise Jay.

Jay is a good public speaker. I am not bothered by Jay defending his father.

Jay is also, IMO --- entitled, non-self-aware, and unable to admit the true reason he isn't currently coaching football (hint: it's not the Freeh Report). Is what it is. For reasons discussed many times here, I find his lawsuit against Penn State absurd.

If he'd go be an OC or a QB coach at some FCS school --- jobs that he could undoubtedly get if he didn't think they were "beneath" him --- I'd root for him. Honestly, I would. That would require Jay to stop playing the "victim" card and start taking some personal responsibility for re-building his coaching career.

I don't think Jay has the personal fortitude within him to do the latter, however.

Why should anyone care what you think, you aren't even a PSU fan or part of the PSU Family. Who gives a crap besides your sorry self wtf you "think"?

Gimme a break, both sides of the political spectrum are guilty of this. And if you can't see that, you are providing evidence in favor of my statement

(Disclosure, I am a financial conservative and social liberal)

Well, my take on that is that the school did f- him over. I would do the same if I were him. Maybe coaching at another school does not appeal to him. And maybe, financially, he can afford to explore other avenues. Write books, give speeches, etc. You cannot begrudge the man because he is no longer interested in coaching. The school did unfairly take his livelihood away, and he has the right to fight that out in court. I don't have any problem with him pursuing legal recourse.
