Jimmy. . .

Support the young man. As frustrated as we are as fans, just imagine how much more he's frustrated. It's all there. Good things happen to good people. I believe that they'll figure it out. I'm sure he already feels the weight of Nittany Nation.

Agree with that, there is probably nobody putting more pressure on JG than Jimmy himself - really feel for him in that regard. I would argue some of that is translating in his wrestling as he sometimes appears to be wrestling not to lose - Jimmy is a different wrestler when he registers the 1st TD versus giving up the 1st TD.

Listen and trust me on this one. We all have to tell Jimmy he is the best in the country and keep telling him. He is his own worse enemy. He must believe in himself and right now he is not believing. He needs all of Nitt Nation to walk up or tell him some how he is the best and keep fighting.

Agree.. We all have our opinions about what has happened,to Jimmy.. And there is probably a bit of everything that is contributing to this horrid slump.. I do know we have the best coaches in the land, and they will do everything they can to get him primed and ready for the post season.. And I have to think Jimmy is feeling the worst about all this..
I remember following JB in high school.. He was ruthless.... Nolf-like ruthless.. I know he has it in him somewhere..

I'm stick with Jimmy till the end. He has the talent and the ability to put it together. I remember years ago everyone here was complaining about Q and he turned it around and won his first national title. I'm not saying that's going to happen, but I'm not going to bail on the Jimmy train.

I wouldnt say everyone but yes these expressions are similar. They also seem to be destined to repeat themselves in the future with all these high end recruits that come to psu when placed against the successes of dt, ed, zain, and now nolf and bo.

i want to say very mean and insulting things to you.

Go ahead Smalls.....I'm sure that the vast majority of fans on here would never let the forum police dock you for a few well deserved choice words!!;)

I think Jimmy goes back to 133 next year and Cortez goes up to 141. Didn't Cortez recently wrestle 141 at a tournament that he won? I think a big part of this for Jimmy is the loss of confidence at 141. I hope I am wrong and he does well this year at the Big Tens and Nationals.

His 6-3 win over Adam Whitesell leaves a lot to be desired, but I suppose added size could help. I think it's a risk. Even at 133, I'm not sure how good Gulibon would be.

Huh? We know he was an AA at 133 last year. What the he!! are you talking about "Even at 133, I'm not sure how good Guilbon would be."??? What a bizarre freaking statement - you're repeated shots at PSU wrestlers including both the Altons and Jimmy G has me wondering if you're really a PSU fan.

I'd be a hell of a lot more optimistic with JG at 133, that's for sure, but I've seen enough wrestlers regress to hold my expectations in check. I'd be thrilled if he went down and showed signs of the old Jimmy. Let's just say he has a lot to prove. For now, I'd be more comfortable with Cortez at 133. The weight clears out just a little bit, and 141 will be tough again.

Too funny, "I this...", "I that..." - something tells me what you think and believe doesn't make a $hits bit a difference as to what the coaches will or won't do. Jimmy doesn't need to prove anything to, or show, you anything to see the starting line-up.

Aren't you the lunatic that invents narratives (with racial undertones) with the hope that somebody's dad will read it? Talk about acting like someone owes you something. Were you hoping for an apology from Mr. Martin?

This is a message board, albeit a very sensitive one. I don't expect the coaches or wrestlers to be reading what I have to say, and if they did, I would hope they didn't give a shit

To me, all year, JG is wrestling with a ZERO sense of urgency... he has to start wrestling matches like he is down by 4 points.... wrestling is no fun when you wrestle scared... JG is the one who should be invoking fear in his opponents... your JG for godsakes!!! now go out and wrestle like him!!! what do you have to lose except getting berated by losers like us on message boards...

Who's this directed at? Have no idea because you didn't copy the message you're responding to. You're a real gem of an a-hole, that much is very clear. Again, your comment that JG hasn't shown that he can do anything at 133 is beyond inane as are your inane remarks about JG (or any other PSU wrestler for that matter) needing to prove or show you anything. Maybe the board isn't sensitive - maybe most of the posters just don't like a raging douche such as yourself. Welcome to ignore, adious.

He needs to learn a duck under when down by 1 pt.

(Admittedly poor attempt at re-creating the BSD sarcasm font.)

So frustrating to watch because you know he's got so much more to give.

I said this at the very beginning of the season, but why do people think he has so much more to give? He is one of my all-time favorite PIAA wrestlers and his HS resume is paralleled by only a few people.

But his NCAA career has been very consistent. He's an average to better than average wrestler. What we're seeing from him is totally consistent with how he has wrestled at this level for his entire career. And yes, I understand that he made a nice run at nationals last year. But outside of that run he's been pretty consistent. Very little confidence, very little offense, not able to finish shots, and sloppy decisions late. That's who he is at this level. That's OK, though. But I think we should stop pretending he's a great NCAA wrestler because he's never been one.

Wouldn't go that far - being an AA as a sophmore is a lot better than average to slightly better than average. He has not dominated the way he did in HS or live up to the expectations that he would attain the levels of a Q or Ruth or Taylor, but that hardly makes him average.

What? He has been a great NCAA wrestler, average guys aren't All Americans already

If you think he's a great NCAA wrestler then we disagree. Like I've said, he made a fantastic run at nationals last year. But that kind of wrestling has not been the norm for him. Everyone keeps talking about this version of him we've never seen at this level. There is just no evidence that the version of him many think exist actually exists. I understand his high school career. I watched him win all four of his titles. But I think his high school success has blinded a lot of people. He's been living off that reputation for the last four years.

He's not the same caliber D1 wrestler that he was in high school. D1 is a totally different animal.

If he was on any other team the same people defending him here would be criticizing him.

I think this (not you [well maybe a little], but this thread) is getting into the semantics game of trying to place just how good he is, what his expectations should be...my opinion is that the fanbase is somewhat spoiled at this point from the success of a lot of our guys. Recruiting rankings are just that - for talk. That's the beautiful thing about wrestling, you could not be ranked, heck not even talked about and win a title.

Jimmy took 5th as a Sophomore. Is it great? IDK. But it's pretty damn good. Especially after doing it two weeks after taking 6th at BIGs! And beating a guy that beat him at BIGs. That's resiliency. And that's not high school either.

This whole bit about Jimmy is all talk anyway, which is the great part. He's gonna be the guy at 41 for the tournament and next year. And everyone who is getting on him will have to deal with it.

I think I found the guy I'm gonna especially root for in March.

Do you mean like we're doing now?

This. Kids mature at different times. Some high schoolers mature early and dominate while others are late bloomers and take college by storm. From everything I've heard about Jimmy, he works very hard and always has. I'll always root for a kid like that. He is not resting on his laurels.

Cody said it clear as day after the MSU match. Jimmy has to want it and believe in himself. That tells me this is mostly mental and he needs to get right up top. As a freshman, if Jimmy gave up the first points, he almost always lost. As a sophomore, there were many matches where he was down and came back to win. Clearly he was in a good place mentally ... particularly at the end of the year. Now he is back to where he was as a frosh while also dealing with bigger kids. Hopefully the coaches can get his mind right in the next three weeks as he has the ability to succeed at 141.

I'm rooting for him BIG TIME.

Nick never AA'd like Jimmy...was capable of beating a lot of guys but had some head scratching losses. At times, just didn't seem to have his head in it. Alex is also another one. Altoona. Guys who were all world coming out of high school and never measured up.
