Julian Fleming interview

Its time for Julian to catch the ball for the entire game instead of dropping passes in the 1st quarter
Exactly. While he seems like a great PA kid, I want to feel like it was worth Franklin going out and getting him in the portal. And maybe it was for the USC game alone, but other than that game he has not been a factor beyond what any other backup wr can do. Wallace and now Clifford are significantly outperforming Fleming.

I think the USC game was worth it. Sure, he has a few drops, but he doesn't quit on plays and does a good job blocking for his teammates and brings some leadership in the room. His contributions go beyond his state lines.

I expect him to have a big game against his former team this weekend. Hopefully he is able to finish off this season very strong and get a shot in the NFL. I do wonder if the emergence of Warren as superstar has taken some action away from Fleming.

Could be a Shakespearean story brewing. Which way will it go?

The thing that bothered me about the drop in the Wisconsin game was that it was not a difficult catch - easiest catch you can have; wideopen, soft ball, ball up directly in front of his face... and the reason he dropped it was a breakdown in basic fundamentals - specifically, taking his eyes off the ball and turning his head up field to see what was in front of him (he knew he was by himself and he showed a lack of focus like a kid in a candy store with anticipation). Taking your eye (head) off the ball like this causes your hands to move which is what causes the drop. He's to experienced a receiver to have a drop like this which is caused by poor fundamentals. Really disappointing given the way he was coming on......

The Ravens d-backs and receivers had more than half a dozen flat out drops vs the Browns on Sunday. It happens.

Even the best nfl guys drop passes.

The easiest ones to drop are the easiest ones to catch because you lose concentration and just assume it's already caught. You're already on to the move you're going to make on the safety. Difficult ones cause one to maintain focus on the ball.

Even Fred Biletnikoff dropped a pass in his career. You just cannot do it often, or it can become a mind thing like kickers, throwing the ball back to the pitcher etc. Of course, it can also cause one to sit down and watch.

Fleming seems to be bright, with a good attitude and positive mindset. Would like to see him have great remainder of the season.

The best receivers have disciplined mechanics... hands up before ball arrives, make "diamond pattern" with hands & keep hands together moving Diamond pattern to adjust to ball and watch ball into your hands..... not once, or most times.... every time.

Yep, and it's not like either Clifford or Wallace are bucking for even 3rd team All B10. When I watch other games it seems there are always good looking WR's making plays that the announcers identify as having transferred in from so and so school. I know Franklin likes to go after players in the portal that he and the staff previously had relationships with, but I believe Franklin and Co. could have done better than Cephus for last season, and unless Flemming turns up his output for this season as well. PSU has The Best game day atmosphere and should be able to compete on NIL with all but the very top money bag teams.
