Boy am I glad for that time change. I really needed it last night/this morning. :)
As for the game. Wow was not expecting that at all. I thought we would win but I was
expecting a tough hard fought win and possible OT. So glad I was wrong.
Our defense and offense owned the LOS all night. That being said I was really surprised at
how bad we made their Oline look, not something I am used to seeing from a Ferentz/Iowa
coached team.
Hope the Mahon injury is not too bad, he was playing really, really well when he went down but
kudos to Wright for coming in and playing ok. I am not opposed to burning Fries RS if it helps
us get to 10-2. But I have complete faith in the staff to do what is best. They have not let me down
yet.
Barkley is a STUD and I think its time his name starts getting some Heisman mention.
My player of the game though was McSorley. I am just so impressed with what he is doing.
His growth from the KSU game to now is nothing short of amazing. Has anyone ever seen an in season growth and improvement of so many positions, QB, Oline and DLine? I mean yes we've seen some players get marginally better during the season and then big improvement over the off season but not the growth that these guys have made since the pitt and michy games. Just mind boggling.
Coach of the year type stuff.
Even with as much fun as that was and what a good win that was there were 2 areas that concerned me. 1.) still too many penalties, not sure why thats all of a sudden popped up. 2.) and maybe this should be No. 1 but I do not like what they are doing on punt returns. Either Thompkins needs to fair catch the punts or he needs to have everyone run away because there were at least 2 instances last night where the punt could have easily bounced and hit a PSU player. Why isn't Reid back there anymore? Anyway those are my only 2 "issues".
Couple of comments about the "atmosphere". It was very good, crowd was loud and into early.
North Deck was pretty much filled but South Deck seemed to have a lot of seats.
I aslo have never seen so many drunk fans around me and they were all Iowa fans. The Iowa fan
next to me was drinking constantly during the game. He must have gotten up to go to the "Bathroom" with his cup 6 times in the first half. By the 3rd quarter he was tripping over people
and almost falling down the steps. I hope he had a designated driver.
Other question I have is about entering the stadium. There were tons of people still trying to find their
seats in the 1st quarter. What is going on with stadium security. I thought Sandy was "taking care" of this? Why are so many of these entrance points closed? Last time we heard that the Landmark crew was "late". Whats the excuse this time?
All in all it was another great night but I'm glad this is the last home night game for us. Not sure you could get a more perfect weather for a night game in Nov.
JMO but I think we are about 1 year ahead of schedule.
