Just Got a Kick out of Wanny on BTN.....

He, no doubt picked UM over PSU. The commentator responded, "if you keep picking PSU to loose, someday you will be right. You picked Maryland over PSU."
If you watched the entire show, you would have seen that he was very complimentary towards PSU, much more so then he was towards UM. His "pick" of UM was just a last second, off the cuff remark.

No, I just got a chance to see the end. But, that is the first time in his entire career that he has been complimentary towards PSU.

I saw everything up to the point where he made his pick. He was very complimentary of this team. On another note, does anyone have more of a yinzer accent than Wanny? The way he say's "touchdon" cracks me up.

Uneducated Pittsburghers who live in the South Side don't even speak with that pronounced of an accent. When I hear him speak on that show, I wonder whether he's trying too hard to be a "blue collar" Pittsburgher and if it's just an act. Maybe I hang around a different crowd, but I know nobody who talks with that pronounced of a Western PA accent.

By the way, his cousin is an attorney at the downtown Pittsburgh law firm at which I work, and I can attest that he does not speak with that type of accent.

Also, since the mid-70s, he's lived a large portion of his life in cities like Miami, Dallas and Chicago, so you would think that he would've lost most of whatever accent he had.

When I was in school at PSU, my roommate (from Schulkill County) always made fun of the Pittsburgh accent - he used to say that NBC should have a TV show called "Pittsburgh Vice" starring "Dahn Tahn"....

haha. Maybe it’s like Spurrier always giving Duke his vote in the coach’s poll. “wanny picks Rutgers over PSU.”

Or maybe he keeps it realistic and if there’s any chance the opponent can win, he goes that way. Who knows. But I’m ok with it. It’s entertainment, nothing more.

Care to articulate?
You said that that is the first time in his entire career that he has been complimentary towards Penn State.

My response was very simple. your statement is factually inaccurate.

In fact every year for the last 3 years our local news affiliate has done an interview with Dave at Big Ten media days. And every year he's been good to PSU. And every year he would say but the Panthers are gonna get them. And while im not sure, i think he slummed for us in 2016. But that would have be checked.

His takes on Penn State are in the same vein of Paterno saying to Herbie " always good to talk to an Ohio State guy that can read."

Have a friend from the 'burgh that moved to Chicago 20 yrs ago. He did a presentation one day and after the meeting a woman walked up to him and the first thing she said was "How long ago did you move out of Pittsburgh?"

Yinz can take yer butt outta da 'burgh but you can't get da 'burgh outta yer blood.

if he picks Michigan every year vs psu he will be right at least 75% of the time

So is it Coach Mendenhall who is next go 2-10 against the rivals and make it 80+ years without an outright title? Or are you guys finally gonna roll over and drop to FCS where you belong?

Btw, love the “scarlet outs” the Big House does vs OSU every other year
