Tarriffs: what’s the deal with this? I thought the whole country was pretty much on board with free trade, or at least not starting trade wars. I get negotiating from a far point to reach a more desirable compromise, but this just seems ridiculous. You need friends. Pissing off all of your friends doesn’t do any good. Even if there’s some actual logical reasoning, the extreme of the action is imprudent. Start small and escalate, don’t just go for the jugular (or even just embarrass them all publicly) on all of your allies. What’s the justification, not just jokes, from the right?
Roseanne/Samantha Bee: Roseanne is an idiot. You have to know you can’t make jokes about Muslims and apes. To be fair, I didn’t know Jarrett was part African American, but you still just don’t take that chance. It wasn’t funny enough (had she not been african American) to justify that kind of risk. But with Bee, how do you drop a c-bomb and get to get away with an oops I was just joking? The race war that the left is waging has just gone too far. Why can’t we just agree the defamatory behavior is unacceptable no matter who you are? The color of your skin or your gender, or your political leanings shouldn’t somehow negate hurtful actions. Why does the left believe hurtful behavior of any kind is no big deal, so Lang as it comes from the someone on the right team? Also, by delineating who is “tough enough” to “deal with it”, seems almost racist in and of itself. By saying white men are the only group that can deal with hurtful behavior, doesn’t the left realize that they are perpetuating racism, vitriol, victimhood, and a permanent class of resentment? Any thoughts, not just jokes, from the left?
Trump support: why does the right not call a fair game of balls and strikes with this guy. I totally get that the left is butt hurt and can’t accept the loss so they’ve gone nuclear and all out war on him. But the right had an opportunity to look like the non-demagogue party and if they had called it fair with trump (it’s not responsible to say some of the things he says), and not just blindly supported everything. Take the high road. Any thoughts, not just jokes, from the right?
I’m legitimately trying to understand both sides of these issues. I’m about as moderate and common sense as they come.
