Game was last week. The Golden Flashes looked like the better team IMHO.

But... short week, game at Champaign.. don't want to look ahead to OSU.. every week is the SB....

I hope you're not teasing us; I'm betting the farm based on your analysis. :)
If you watch just a bit of the game film (above) it creates reason for optimism. The Flashes gave our next opponent all they could handle (were up 17-3).

I'm not trying to be overconfident, but at my age, and with the stress of OSU & MSU games coming up (which will each take the usual 2-3 weeks off of my life) I am really hoping that we not just win game 4, but that we can rest. our. starters. Don't want Sanders, Miller, Bates, Hamler, McSorely, Gillikin or anybody else with even a bruised pinky finger.

There is NO QUESTION Illinois has improved, but Kent State should have won that game two weeks ago.

Illinois’s biggest strength are their two kickers.

But they have been hit hard with injuries, especially at wide receiver.

This SHOULD be something along the lines of 63-16. If the game is much closer, it’ll be our own fault by playing down to the level of our competition.

I saw that, Illinois has like eight starters out with injuries/suspension/"other"... hope mostly for a good clean game. I lived in Illinois for three years.

Fun fact, the Fighting Illini are one of only five FBS teams whose nickname does not end in the letter "s" or include a color (like Orangemen or Green Wave).

Okay I’ll bite. Navy, Notre Dame, the Wolfpack(s) of Nevada and NC State and ????? Stanford Cardinal? Is Marshal FBS? Thought they are the Thundering Heard. Illinois would make 7. What do I have wrong?

We were up 42-7 and our starters were still in...he doesn’t do a lot of resting the starters.

Cardinal is a color.

Not FBS, but
North Dakota used to be fighting sioux....but they changed due to PC stuff.
Bucknell Bison
North Dakota State Bison
William and Mary Tribe

Fighting Illini
Fighting Irish
Midshipmen
Wolfpack (NC State)
Wolf Pack (Nev)
Thundering Herd
Minutemen (UMass)

Alabama Crimson Tide
Tulane Green Wave
Tulsa Golden Hurricane
Presbyterian Blue Sox

No 'S', no colors.

I saw the same question years ago (except there were only 4 D1A teams that fit the parameters). I don't think it's been updated to include all of FBS as it's grown, which would eliminate L.A.Lion's last three.

Not so fast, my friend. Male or female cardinal color? Big difference. And don’t tell me the color wasn’t born in direct relation to the bird.

By the way, I think Sioux means ‘enemy’ in French. They’re actually Lakotas.

Illini fan here, you are correct we had a bunch of guys out vs KSU including 3 of our top 4 DBs. Those guys should all be back for Friday's game as well as our starting TE. Hopefully our starting QB will also be back, he was out for the USF game. Won't likely change the outcome, but should help us be a little more competitive.

Biggest concern for us is the DL, was expected to be a strong point for the D but they have underachieved so far. PSU should have no problems running the ball as much as they want to. Or passing the ball if they choose to do that instead.

Whats the general fan base feeling for Lovie Smith?

Thanks for the welcome. Hard to say on Lovie, I think it depends on which fans you talk to. From my perspective, I thought it was a surprising hire. Of course you have to take into consideration the timing. We had fired Beckman due to the player abuse findings, and the AD was out as well. The interim AD chose to give Bill Cubit a 2 year deal, which was about the worst choice I could have imagined. So given all that, it may have been a great hire. Certainly for Illinois it's hard to imagine attracting too much better of a coach at that point.

I think a large portion of the fan base are also Bears fans and thus held Lovie in a pretty high regard given his (relative) success there. Of course, many of the things that he did as a Bears coach that they didn't like still irritate them now, like a very conservative approach, poor clock management, etc. I think as a person he's a tremendous guy to have representing the program if nothing else. There are also fans who think Lovie is just cashing a check and planning his retirement.

My personal take was that I was more encouraged that for once Illinois actually paid their coach at least mid-tier money for a Big Ten program. Historically we've been really, really cheap so that in itself was encouraging. Of course, if it doesn't work out I'm sure the admin will say, "See! Told you we shouldn't be spending all that money on coaches!" :(

Nice post, Booty.

Like the name as well. Either you are a rather large individual, or you really like the ladies...
