Kasey Gaines no longer with the program

Similar to O'Connor, probably saw the writing on the wall. Smart move. Best of luck, Kasey.

This is more fallout from the sanctions though, in a way, as kids came here who would not have gotten a chance otherwise. But I wish him luck if he transfers--he did come in a dark moment for us, and those kids should be honored for it. If he stays, I hope he keeps a scholarship in some way. That's why I am in favor of the new four-year scholarship.

Completely agree with that. Steven Bench seems like a similar story, and I actually thought he was going to be the starter after McGloin. Until, Hack committed. But, there's a kid that probably never would have been on PSU's radar if it had not been for the sanctions. Therefore, he would have stayed committed to Rice and the rest is history.

Best of luck to him. I was expecting such, as we head to 20+ 2016 openings

DB will be extremely competitive, baring significant injuries. At least 6 talented kids at CB now Williams, Haley, Campbell, Smith, Davis and Worley), and 2 dynamic athletes in Reid and Taylor coming to the position this summer.

I don't see how Gaines could have seen the field at CB, and playing time on special teams will also be very competitive going forward as well.

This is not surprising at all. Looking at the roster and depth chart, he was buried deep and was doubtful to ever see the field. But I thought that this would probably happen after next season.

I'm guessing not the last player to decide to go this route

Just what happens in a coaching change. Wish him and any others the best.

Really don't think it has anything to do with coaching change, imo. Depth and talent was prob the reason. If this team is loaded at any position it sure is the defensive backfield. He saw the writing on the wall and decided to make the move rather than waste eligibility wasting away on the sidelines. Best of luck to him going forward.

Who is Kasey Gaines? Sorry, but I have never heard of him.

Did he play at all last year?

He would have been a RS sophomore this upcoming season. Came in under O'Brien after the sanctions. Was part of the 2013 class, a small but fast CB who never really had a chance once the sanctions were lifted and bigger, faster kids started coming into the program. He had an opportunity to attend Harvard and play football there- obviously a very smart kid. Best of luck to him.
