Kemerer 6th year

Michael Kemerer just tweeted he was granted a 6th year of eligibility by the NCAA. What a shame we won’t get a rubber watch of him and Mark.

Fastest decision ever ,even during a pandemic , wow . I just want there to be a season

"rubber watch"?

Carter has Mark's back in the rubber match.

Assuming HR isn't tripping over their hippocratic selves has anybody checked to see if they are having an epic meltdown about Brands cheating, a slush fund paying for unethical medical charting or some other bizarre bullshyt?

Not to mention the age at which he will be competing next season. They always like to throw that around for some reason as if they never had an older guy compete. Personally I'm happy for him get another year, seems like a good guy and has an entertaining style.

Seems like a great kid. This is good news. He will be the favorite heading into next season.

I know this sounds like I'm spoiled (I am), and I know we can't get them all, but Iowa had 5 Pennsylvania wrestlers in their starting lineup and was the best wrestling team in the nation this year. Penn State had Vincenzo Joseph -- most of the rest were from elsewhere, I think. Hall is from Minnesota, Lee is from Indiana, Nevills is from California, Shak is from NY....why aren't we getting the Pennsylvania studs?

As long as we keep picking up guys like Hall, Lee, Shak, Cassar, RBY, Brooks, Nickal, and others...I DON'T CARE!!!

The only wrestler on Iowa's team the last couple of years that I would take in a heart beat is Spencer. We knew what he was all about during the PIAAs. I like Kemerer, but he was at Nolf's weight or if he moved up it was Joseph or Hall's weights, both studs. I believe many of these kids contact PSU' s head coach because they want to wrestle for him and Penn State. I'm going to use Thomas Haines a PA state 4 timer who was previously committed to PSU but Nick Nevills changed that, as my example, because he wanted to wrestle for Cael. We just can't get them all with 9.9 scholarships, someone else lands a stud or 2 also from PA.

Right, but don't you feel better if an all-Pennsylvania Penn State team wins a national title? Maybe not all, as there's always going to be room for Bo Nickal and Nick Lee. But a loaded Pennsylvania lineup that wins it all should be a source of pride.

I remember how bummed I was when things went south with Chance M and we had to settle for that Nickal guy. I just will not doubt Cael when it comes to the character and quality of student athletes he is recruiting to PSU.

Yeah, I'm with Bruce. IMHO we should have passed on Nick Lee and gone after Murin instead, passed on Zain and gone after Lugo instead, passed on Nolf and gone after Kemmerer instead, passed on Hall and gone after LaBriola instead, and on and on.

This is an old and tired argument. Other than Spencer Lee we did not miss out on any PA studs that we needed. Would I like to have gotten all of them? Of course, but that is never going to happen. If Kemmerer had come to PSU he would never have been the starter. Maybe next season in his 6th season he could beat out Starocci, but then again maybe not.

no, as stated above, i don't care where they come from. There are legitimate reasons why we didn't get those guys. at that time, we already had wrestlers as good or better than them at that point in their careers. It's the same reason we didn't get hidley brothers. those things are going to happen. iowa has to go elsewhere for their wrestlers, as the state quality has fallen in recent years. just so happens that pa is the best wrestling state in the country. it does, and will continue to happen. can't get them all.

But that's kind of my point....Iowa had a 50% Pennsylvania team this year and was the best team in the country.

Penn State had a 10% or 20% Pennsylvania team this year and was probably 3rd best?

Coming from an Iowa fan:

Pre injuries, PSU was the favorite for 2020. While I believe Iowa was poised to take the crown, a healthy PSU lineup would have been a tough team to dethrone.

Even with the benefit of hindsight, who would you put on the mat? This is the Penn State line-up without injuries, and the highest ranked PA wrestlers.

125 - Meredith or Spencer Lee
133 - RBY or Desanto
141 - Lee or Pletcher
149 - Verk or Sasso
157 - Berge or Hayden Hidlay -Kaleb Young
165 - Vincenzo or Vincenzo
174 - Hall or Kemerer
184 - Brooks or Trent Hidlay
197 - Shak or Greg Bulsak
285 - Cassar or Steveson (whoops! Should have been Jordan Wood. Thanks E-J)

So the logical choices are 125 and 149. Maybe 157, but there was a problem with another PA boy named Nolf. All things equal, I'll still take Meredith and Verk to have this team intact.

Because you cannot get them all and some would rather start somewhere than sit here. Dirk Cowburn could have started for just about anyone else but chose to stay but did not crack the lineup.

This has been answered in bits and pieces above. Unless you can convince talents like Kaleb Young, Kemerer, Murin, etc to sit for a few years, they are going to go elsewhere. To our chagrin they all went to the same place due to the Strittmatter bus trip factor.

Guys like Lee are a whole other story - you almost always go full bore after any talent like that no matter what your lineup looks like

all about recruiting and timing. PSU had Nolf and Cenzo, didn't need others and others don't want to come when a Hall is in your way. Big puzzle that changes from year to year.

Beat me to it.

One minor correction: by far the best PA HWT is Jordan Wood -- and we've seen how he stacks up against Cassar.

The only other PA HWTs to qualify this year were 28 Furman and 30 Gunning. They'd both get squashed by the champ ... though Gunning's dad might take out Terry behind the stands.

Seriously.

Kemerer is the best of those 3, and was a poor fit in PSU's lineup. 157 got controlled by One Legged Nolf. 165 ... pinned by Cenzo in HS. He didnt grow into 174 until his 5th year -- and before Hall we had some Bo Nickal guy at that weight.

Murin sits his entire career at PSU, and Young probably does until Berge gets hurt.

Lee ... people act as if Cael didn't prioritize him, which is complete nonsense.

Ha, that’s funny. I type Steveson instead of Wood. I guess that’s what happens when you’re trying to beat Jefe to the punch!

Spencer - we didn't get him, it is what it is

ADS - we have RBY

Murin - we have Nick Lee

Young - Berge was a top prospect and I think he was poised to break out this year at 157 (did you see him at U23s?). Either way, I didn't think Young would have been a 157 in college and more of a 165/174 (where we have Cenzo/Mark), think he's making a huge cut for his team.

Kemerer - he is a wash with Mark, he also was never committing here when Nolf was at his weight, would you rather have had Kemerer in 2018 for tOSU showdown?

Cael knows what he's doing, though I'll throw in Casey, Cody, and Jake too.

With the explanations above, all with merit ... these two years are Iowa's perfect storm with the Pennsylvania guys. Six total on their roster, and five starting, there's 4 Seniors, 1 Junior, and 1 Freshman. After 2021, they will have two, Murin and Teasdale, NOT NEARLY THE PA FIREPOWER, plus not a single PA kid in their 2020 commits. It's happenstance.
