i have seen some smoke that cenzo might be leaving to join sunkist at ASU to focus on competing
I imagine Nico is there to help Kem whenever he needs seeing how their relationship goes back to since Kem was a tot.

Interesting that he plans on wrestling at all, figured he had enough. Wouldn't surprise me if it's a short run on the competition side. As for our friends to the West, this may have been an amicable departure, but it's still another hit to their RTC. If they don't get some momentum soon, the college side is going to feel its effects on the recruiting trail.

Spencer being the obvious exception the Hawks haven't actually been much of a breeding ground for wrestling champions. Despite the lack of produced champions they still recruit well enough to finish 3rd or 4th in the Big10.
You mentioned ADS wrestling in the years ahead. After having to babysit him for years in an attempt to keep him from going off the rails, do you think TNT will start paying him now?

I wonder if Spencer will stay and rep the HWC when he graduates. I assume they will throw a bunch of $ his way but other RTC’s will as well and they will probably have better partners for him than he has in Iowa City. If he leaves it will be really bad for the hawkeyes
They will throw the kitchen sink at him if they need to. Everything rides on Spencer carrying the program, whether it be the college team or the HWC. I would think they have the dollars figured out by now, but if not, then that could explain the lack of big spending lately (i.e., they think they’ll need a war chest of unlimited proportions to keep him). If they lose him, fuggettaboutit. Done.
That said, I think they already have it all worked out, and know they have a little extra left over to pay Marinelli to possibly compete for the HWC.
Spencer seems pretty set to get coached by Terry Brands for his International Career. I also think most have him pegged as the HC after Tom Brands. Obviously plans change often but I'd be shocked if he signed anywhere but HWC unless something sours his relationship with them in the next year.
I totally agree they will do everything to keep him and it might already be worked out but if he wants to be a world champion he has to leave. Who are his partners that are going to make him better? Look at Gilman! Was good when he was there but was never going to reach his peak. Made the move and is now at a completely different level. I understand it will be difficult for Spencer to leave with so much pressure on him but if he wants to reach his full potential I truly believe he has to leave and get in a better RTC. Obviously I’m partial to the NLWC but someplace like Spartan would probably be good as well. He needs world class training partners and the HWC is not providing them
If true, perhaps SL will be running a club until Coach Brands retires a la the DT model.

Complete rumor.....but it's been typed that what the HWC can't come up with Coe College will backfill........

I think Lee will be just fine at HWC. They will bring in training partners for him. They will spare no expense to make sure he reaches his goals.
While I agree the HWC may not be the best place for him to realize his full potential, I’m not so sure his full potential is necessary to be a world champ. I think his health is the #1 limiting factor.
The other thing is this — if there was any doubt about whether he’s staying, would Coach Lar be working so damn hard? He seems pretty invested in mentoring Tom and recruiting for the portal. Looks like a guy who’s all-in.

What if Lee doesn’t win his 4th, for whatever reason, do plans at Iowa go sideways?
Spencer would give a knee to wrestle at NLWC, but Gilman is loved.
Who knows where the sport of wrestling will be in 2030? Remember what was said when Cael took the Penn State job? Everyone laughed at the idea of Penn State being some sleeping giant. Iowa I don't think ever did much before Gable.
Maybe David Tepper gets bored and donates $500 million for Pitt to build NASA level facilities for Pitt wrestling and recruits Spencer back home?
I cannot believe I am about to say this but I am happy with Gilman over Lee at this point.

Agreed, SL has ONE senior level tourney under belt, still got a LOT to prove,and TG is on a whole other level since he bolted.
Where is TG rated in the world rankings BTW?
Has our board voted yet? Does this need appending to everyone’s signature here? Would it reduce insurance costs?

Larry Lee can get away with his act in Hawkeye land because of the simple fact that the Brands need Spencer more than Spencer needs them. Not like Spencer would not have other options. The Brands put up with Larry because they are desperate to stay relevant.
