Kennedy Monday

Alex's talent and athleticism is obviously there, his drive is there, he has the best middleweight coaching in the world. Cael pinpointed exactly what he needed to do to excel (setup shots better) His redshirting results weren't super indicative of someone ready to explode on the scene but I bet you'll find that to be the case for many guys who would blossom as redshirt freshman.

So yeah, he's the newcomer, you can't put him ahead of any of the returning AAs at this point. Start him ranked 25 if you want, who cares? It really doesn't matter. I have no doubt he'll be able to wrestle with and beat anyone at 165 eventually.

Back to the original topic. Kennedy Monday being interested in PSU isn't shocking obviously, we obviously could provide coaching that helps him reach his potential. I also don't think Cael rejects Monday either obviously if he can get into school and just wants to walk on.

Here's where it doesn't add up to me. Willie has previously said PSU hasn't used NIL to get a single recruit or transfer yet (RBY doesn't count, he was our guy already) and we're pretty by the books about that and don't talk about it during the process when vetting transfers/recruits. But suddenly we're using it to entice a likely room guy to compete with our blue chip 165 recruit who can't redshirt anymore? Doesn't pass the smell test here.

Cael, the coaches and PSU are not allowed to discuss the NIL money with any recruit or transfer. If he wants to find someone to give him a NIL contract and then he "walks on". do you really think Cael would complain? Do you think any coach would complain?

Also, why is everyone saying that he is going 165#? Why not 157#? Let Levi redshirt. Just curious.

If Levi redshirts, he takes 157# and then next year, everyone moves up one weight class all the way through 197# with Brooks.

Probably because he last wrestled 157 in 2018.

If he can make 157, sure, why not, but skepticism warranted.

Because he last went 157 as a freshman and he looks noticeably bigger now (and definitely bigger than Quincy)

If he can make 157 then that changes things dramatically. I think most on this board would like to redshirt Levi and Monday at 157 would allow that to happen. I think all of the no’s or even just wondering about the fit is if he comes in at 165. Facundo seems to be the guy but at 157 I think everyone’s arms are wide open along with the spot. I just don’t think anyone can actually see him making 157. If he can than by all means come on over

Actually I think it's the other way around: I think Levi is the guy at 157, and I think the battle is at 165 to see who goes. Right now of course the front runner is Facundo, but I believe a Monday coming in, would create a battle...and the gut could still be Facundo, or maybe Monday or another guy....but I believe Haines is the guy at 157 and I don't think it's even a question.

There’s not doubt Haines is the best at 157 but I think most everyone wants him to redshirt especially because it looks like his points won’t be needed in the team race. I think he can AA as a true freshman but if he redshirts I think he can be a 4 time champ. I know that’s crazy to put those expectations on anyone but I think Levi is that good. I see it similar to Zain. Good as a true freshman but absolutely unbeatable after his redshirt year. So let him redshirt and acclimate to college and continue to get better while Monday wrestles 157. Then unleash him the following year.

That thinking may or may not be accurate. Cenzo and Mark proved otherwise on that theory. Not saying that thinking is not valid, but that there is evidence on both sides that shows it isn't necessarily a fact that a redshirt is needed to secure a national individual championship for a top tier talent.
